What Others Have To Say About Gordon Kirkland's Books:

"Spoof is stranger than friction. If life is a load then laugh at it. This is Gordon Kirkland's take on the stress of survival. Nothing is safe from his crack-the-wit columns, which is why I love to read his stuff... I just wouldn't want to be married to him! His writing is an affirmation that we are all in the same boat - it just leaks in different places."

                                   Lynn Johnston
                          Creator
For Better Or For Worse comic strip

"Canada has given the United States many wonderful gifts: Beer. Hockey. That famous entertainer, whatshisname. Beer. The list goes on and on. And to this list we must add the name of Gordon Kirkland, a very funny writer who is able to find humor in just about anything, because the only alternative would be for him to get a real job. As a fellow class clown suffering from maturity impairment, I salute him."

                                   Dave Barry
Pulitzer Prize Winning Columnist and Author

"Not only is Gordon accomplished in his field, but he is funny! I don't know if you have ever tried being funny on paper, but it is one of life's miracles. Gordon should probably be sainted. But don't take my word for it; just read him."

                                   Ridley Pearson
                           Author of 23 bestselling novels,
                           TV films and children's books

Quotes From Gordon Kirkland At Large

Samples of the way my mind works...

©2006, Gordon Kirkland
  • When you're the parent of teenage boys, you know you're in trouble when you run out of food before you finish taking the groceries out of the car.
  • I'm big for my age. I've always been big for my age. The last time I fitted on one of those charts that says what you should weigh based on your height was when my father turned to my mother and said, "What do you mean you're pregnant...?"
  • I've been married for over thirty years to my first wife. (She calls me her last husband.) I learned early on that if a man speaks in the forest and there is on one there to hear him, he will still be wrong.
  • When Pavlov rang his bell, his dog would drool. Whenever anyone rang our bell, Nipper, the late, great dumbest dog to ever get lost on a single flight of stairs would pee. Same concept. Diferent end of the dog.
  • When our sons were learning to drive I had an important job. Diane would go out driving with them and I would stay home and hose down the driveway. That way when she kissed the ground after getting out of the car, it would be clean.

Lynn Johnston's For Better Or For Worse
Lynn is one of my favorite people. She's been a great supporter of mine for several years, and I am truly blessed to have her as a friend. Visit her site and get your daily strip fix.
The Erma Bombeck Writers' Workshop
I am honored to be a part of the faculty of the most prestigious humor writing conference in North America. Erma Bombeck blazed the trail for many of us in this business to follow, and it is my pleasure to honor her memory.
Ridley Pearson
Ridley is another great friend in the business. It's hard to believe that we've known each other for almost ten years now. (I know I haven't gotten any older...) We've worked together at conferences and an incredible camp for young writers. Visit his website for information about his mystery novels and his children's books co-written with Dave Barry.
Dave Barry
Speaking about Dave, here's his website. I appreciate the support and encouragement that Dave has given me with my latest book. Brace yourself before visiting his website, and make sure you don't have anything liquid in your mouth!
The Southern California Writer's Conference - San Diego
This conference is too much fun to be legal in certain states. I've been on the faculty there since 2004, and look forward to spending President's Day weekend there. I find I come back from this conference as enthuised about writing as any of the attendees. An important difference about this conference is that it is attendee fucused, not podium focused. The faculty is there for the participants, not the other way around.
