Zero Foot Printing Starts Here, California Homeowners Looking For Low Cost Solar Panel Systems For Your Home....

Did you know that by replacing 100% of your utility grid electricity with solar you can eliminate approximately one-third of your environmental impact? Solar electric technology is becoming more appealing to those who are concerned with decreasing and limiting their environmental footprint (known as zero foot printing).

New websites are appearing daily giving visitors an opportunity to calculate their own personal environmental footprint (i.e., zero foot printing). Go here to use a solar savings calculator: http://www.jointhesolution.com/gosolar2.

Several states have begun to adopt measures to decrease the high utility demands. With recently revised energy efficiency standards and legislation in states such as California, many homeowners are beginning to look for more affordable ways to meet the new regulatory requirements for their homes. Similar legislative measures are also expected in several other high demand states in 2007.

One company is on a mission to help those who have a zero foot printing objective: to have 25% of all U.S. residential electricity production coming from solar power by 2025. This company is called CitizenRe Corporation.

CitizenRe's vision: "Our goal is not just to sell solar panels. Our vision is to create a powerful, grass-roots movement for social, economic and environmental change." The company has also outlined a very impressive roadmap for the outcomes they plan to achieve.

For example, CitizenRe plans to build and install 100,000+ solar energy systems per year within the next several years. Even more exciting is that they have come up with an innovative and low cost way to make it affordable for any builder, realtor, homeowner, or property owner to have the system installed.

Many builders, realtors, homeowners are looking for a way to have their property rated as a home certified as a "green" home. One way to rate a home's "green" performance is referred to as The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System™. This is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings. It is a type of certification for homes that uses a voluntary rating system that promotes the design and construction of high performance "green" homes.

Green homes use less energy, water, and natural resources; create less waste; and are healthier and more comfortable to live in for the home owner. When CitizenRe installs their Solar Photovoltaic Electric System, all six LEED for Homes certification points for renewable energy are easily and most economically met in the solar energy systems marketplace to date. How bout that for zero foot printing?!

Here are the advantages CitizenRe offers with their solar energy system installation:

+ no up-front system purchase required + no installation cost

+ no maintenance fees (the company will take care of it for the life of your contract)

+ no utility rate increases for up to 25 years + no permit hassles

+ keep your own utility company as a back-up energy source

+ take it with you if you move and have it re-installed at your new home free of charge (one time only)

Innovation and Zero Foot Printing

The Recent Grand Prize Winner of the Google and Specialized Innovate or Die Contest

The Aquaduct is pedal powered vehicle that transports, filters, and stores water for the developing world. A peristaltic pump attached to the pedal crank draws water from a large tank, through a filter, to a smaller clean tank. The clean tank is removable and closed for contamination-free home storage and use. A clutch engages and disengages the drive belt from the pedal crank, enabling the rider to filter the water while traveling or while stationary.

The Aquaduct is the winning entry in the Innovate or Die contest put on by Google and Specialized. The contest challenge was to build a pedal powered machine that has environmental impact. Visit the website innovate-or-die.com for more details.

I like the fact that your lens discusses much more than merely solar cost reduction or zero footprint attainability. It also preaches corporate responsibility to strive towards a future where renewable resources are the norm rather than the exception. Thanks for creating a useful and insightful lens. Through awareness comes adoption, and I have no doubt that we'll continue to see a movement towards increased acceptance of solar technology in helping us move off the grid. Feel free to stop by my site, The Solar Cost Guide and contribute your opinion, as well. Cheers.

I wonder how many people realize that the actor Ed Begley, Jr. is such an environmentalist? I've been reading alot about reducing our carbon foot print, but not too much about zero foot printing. Hopefully one day!
