   Well immediately when I think of phobias I think of Germs. My husband claims that I am Germophobic. Am I? Well I don't touch public doors or toilets, I wash my hands alot and I avoid people who are sick like the plague. So okay I don't like germs, who does?

   Probably the most famous germophobic is Howie Mandel host of the t.v. show Deal or No Deal. He doesn't shake hands with his guest instead he gives them a fist hitting gesture. He avoids people who are sick including his family. He also has a disorder known as Obsessive Complusive Disorder.

  He pokes fun at himself at times but this disorder must be a real pain. He goes to drastic measure to avoid germs. He has appeared on many shows including Regis and Kelly and Ellen poking fun and joking of this overwhelming disorder.

  Here are some Charateristis of Germophobia and OCD:

Frequent handwashing or obsessive washing of hands

not shaking hands

not touching doorknobs or handles

Avoiding activities that involve getting dirty or unclean

not sharing food or drinks (yuck who does that)

avoiding sick people

   Millions of Americans suffer from some type of phobia. I've learned to embrace mine and just take it with stride when someone pokes fun....
