One morning I woke up in excruciating pain near my left big toe. It was like my big toe was on fire. It all started the night before where I was sore of restless and had a hard time going to sleep. I knew something was not right but since it was in the middle of the night I just ignored it. As the night went on it was hard to ignore. Having the slightest thing touching my big toe hurt like hell. Even the breeze of the sheet coming off was very painful. Gout usually attacks the big toe (approximately 75% of first attacks), however it can also affect other joints such as the ankle, heel, instep, knee, wrist, elbow, fingers, and spine.
