White tea is now being hailed as the new "green tea". Studies have shown that it contains more cancer-fighting oxidants than green tea, plus there are loads of other health benefits from drinking tea!

Anti-Oxidants in White Tea 

Like green tea, white tea is crammed with anti-oxidants that help fight free radicals. Free radicals can damage the skin and cause it to age faster.
Green tea, therefore, helps fight and slow down the affects of the sun, unhealthy diet, and stress, which means skin stays younger.
Anti-oxidants called flavanoids are also thought to help prevent cancer cells from being created or spreading.
Catechins, a type of anti-oxidant, reduces bad cholesterol.
The anti-oxidants also help fight off lots of bad bacteria, fighting against many illnesses and diseases, including colds and flus.

Weight Loss 

White tea usually contains little or no calories, unless you add sugar. It is suggested tea also helps to speed up metabolism, so that the body burns fat faster.
Although the effects will probably not be huge just from drinking white tea, there are other calorific benefits of white tea.
It contains less calories than black tea, and most people have a tendancy to add milk and sugar to black tea. On the other hand, quality white tea tastes sweet and light without the added extras! The calories add up!

Lower Blood Pressure 

Studies have shown that drinking white tea can improve how your arteries function, and thin your blood. This helps lower blood pressure, which in turn helps protect against strokes. (Which can cause brain damage or even death)

Also, as white tea helps the circulatory system, regular drinkers of white tea are thought to have 50% less chance of death, after having a heart attack!

Healthy Bones and Teeth! 

Studies have shown that people who drink a lot of white tea have denser, stronger bones than those who don't drink it. This suggests that white tea is beneficial to people who suffer from bone problems, such as arthritis.

Small amounts of flouride in white tea also help drinkers have healthy teeth and gums!

Buying and Drinking White Tea 

White tea is not grown as commonly as other teas. In history, it was reserved for special occassions and brewed for the very rich. Today it is still more expensive, but not to the same extreme!
It can be bought in many places online, although it may be available in some supermarkets. Two online stores are Adagio and The Tea Farm. The higher quality the tea, the better the taste. The highest quality white tea is "Silver Needle".
Loose leaves taste better than bags, but they contain the same light, sweet flavour. They don't need milk or sugar, and for loose leaves you need about 2 teaspoons of leaves for a cup.
For full flavour, brew with hot, not boiling water. Leave to brew for 2-5 minutes, depending on taste. Leaves can be re-used several times, but you will have to leave them to brew for longer for the same flavour.
For the full benefits of white tea, drink several cups a day. I suggest you set aside tea drinking times each day, so you can really enjoy the flavour. (=
