GPS stands for Global Positioning System. It was originally developed for the defence purposes. It is a system of nearly 24-32 satellites orbiting the Earth which transmit precise microwave signals enabling GPS receivers to determine their current location, the time, and their velocity/direction and user gets precise time and location anywhere, anytime and under any atmospheric conditions. It facilitates our television system, wireless phones, mobile/cellphone networks, computer networks and the last but not the least is in-car navigation systems. Latest developments in its technology has made it a "must have" in most of the vehicles. It is equally useful for researchers.
