The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a satellite-based navigation system made up of a network of 24 satellites placed into orbit by the U.S. Department of Defense. GPS was originally intended for military applications, but in the 1980s, the government made the system available for civilian use. GPS works in any weather conditions, anywhere in the world, 24 hours a day. There are no subscription fees or setup charges to use GPS. GEOCACHING IS A FUN ACTIVITY SWEEPING THE WORLD
Have you heard of Geocaching? Geocaching is an entertaining adventure game that could be considered Treasure Hunting in the 21st Century. It is a simple, fun, family friendly, geeky hobby / game that anyone can play! A cache (or 'treasure chest') is hidden somewhere, its coordinates are recorded (in latitude and longitude), and published on a website (www.geocaching.com). Using these coordinates and a GPS unit, someone else can try and find the hidden cache. A typical cache contains "treasure" and a log book. When found, an item can be taken from the cache as long as another item is put in its place. A message is written in the cache log book by the visitor (Typically: The date the cache was found, their name, and any comments they might have). All you need to participate is a Global Positioning Device (GPS).

Great and thanks for the information. I work for UPS during the day, and our machine we use to record deliveries has GPS capability as well. It will alert a driver if he or she is attempting to deliver a package at the wrong address. Of course, I never need this feature! Posted July 09, 2007 |

I was on vaction in Seattle this past week and my brother-in-law just purchased a Garmin GPS. It was great and easy to use. I never got lost driving around Seattle and the surrounding area.
