From Plan B to meditation, it's about sustainability and harmony

Hi, I'm graceonline, and my passion, my mission is to make sure my grand babies, and theirs, get to run wild in fields of tall grass, lie down and make snow angels under a crisp blue sky, and stand in awe at the wide, wide ocean stretching far and tall above their little heads. That's what these lenses are about--building sustainably, learning to live in harmony with each other and the planet, buying green, reducing, reusing, recycling. I hope you feel inspired!

Great-Grandpa built the old home place with his two hands. May our children one day enjoy such a legacy.

Green choices made easy

We are the ones, after all

Changing the world is up to us, in the end, and we have clout where it counts: Our pocketbooks. These lenses offer lots of ways to vote for a greener planet and a brighter future--with your dollars.

While our polar ice caps melt, oil supplies dwindle and, increasingly, we take food from the mouths of babes to fuel our cars, it's easy to think it might be too late already. Lester Brown says there's still time, if we act now, and he lays out the plan. It's going to take all of us. Find out how to work the plan. Get the book.

Consumers rule!

HOW TO VOTE WITH YOUR DOLLARS

We buy stuff. My family does. Most of you do. I'm constantly looking for greener, healthier, better choices for my family, me and the planet.

These lenses show us how to make sustainable--conscious choices in our everyday lives and showcase some of the better fairly traded, organic, and/or sustainably-made products on the market today.

Shop Green, is always a work in progress because products are changing--and getting better--all the time. Why buy organic cotton and That's Bamboo are updated regularly with new tips, tidbits and products from these earth-sensitive materials.

Who says sustainable has to be more expensive? Eco-friendly baby gifts under $10 dispels that myth. And if you despair at the garbage, plastic bags and containers littering your local park and playground, take heart in How to green your picnic, where you can find ways and products to assure you are part of the solution, not part of the problem.

More to come.

Finding right livelihood

Tips from a recruiter

Earning our living doesn't have to be drudgery. Doing work we love, that harms no one, and that contributes to the world in positive ways is part of the Buddhist concept, right livelihood. The first of my lenses in this category highlights the five deadly sins sure to keep your resume from getting a second glance. I know. I've read thousands of resumes in my life, often late into the evening, hunting for those few that showed the skills, experience and special something my organization sought.

The five mistakes highlighted in this lens made my job easier: The moment I found even one of them on a resume, I tossed it in the "No" pile. The prospective employee signaled loud and clear s/he did not care enough about the job. Give yourself a chance: Before you hit that send button, check your resume one last time to assure it avoids these common errors. If you find one, drop everything and fix it.

These are the books that inspire me to keep working for a better world for us all

They are almost always at my fingertips

These are the books I return to again and again and again for inspiration, courage, and a reminder to keep doing my part. I keep them close to hand, and their words close to my mind and heart, especially for those days I feel discouraged and begin to wonder whether just one person's efforts can make any difference at all. Every one of these amazing authors is just. one. person. Look at how much difference their work has made to the world. I'm not comparing myself with them, just trying to follow their example and doing what I can to assure they never feel alone in their efforts.

The lenses in this section contain links to some of the best lenses I've run across on Squidoo. Some are so good, I've dropped everything and nominated them for Lens of the Day (LOTD). Others I've sprinkled a little Squid Angel dust.
