My personal page, tracking lenses I've Squid-Angel blessed

On November 3, 2011, a few days after celebrating my fifth Squidoo birthday, I was blessed with a pair of Squid Angel wings. I take this responsibility, both a privilege and an honor, with care, a fairly light hand, and a lot of love for Squidoo.

On this page, I track every lens I've blessed. If you write useful, informative, and/or entertaining lenses, there's a good chance that, sooner or later, you'll find a link to them here.

How I choose my Squid Stars

And what every lens I bless should include

The stars are mine; otherwise, the logo is Squidoo'sI don't have to love the topic to find it blessing worthy, but I do have to love the way the lensmaster presents it. My dear old English teacher, Mr. D., told us a good writer could make a doorknob interesting, and that is what I look for--a page that keeps my attention from top to bottom no matter the subject.

The stars are mine; otherwise, the logo is Squidoo's

Criteria I follow in choosing whether to bless a lens

  1. Carefully edited copy, with few typos (we all make mistakes) and NO typos in the introduction or module titles.
  2. Appropriate image credits with links to image source, if the images are not owned by lensmaster.
  3. NO PLAGIARIZED COPY! I don't check every inch of every lens, but if copy doesn't feel" right for any reason, I check it.
  4. Informative, useful, original content--and plenty of it.

I follow these guidelines as nearly as I can, though sometimes I miss things. Or perhaps, when I visit again, the lensmaster has changed the lens enough that it no longer meets all my criteria.

Note

The short descriptions accompanying each lens link on this page are automatically generated by Squidoo and are direct quotes from the first lines of the lenses.

My first ever Angel blessing

Not surprising it's about gardening

Because gardens are as essential to my spirit as water to my body, it's not surprising I was reading a gardening lens when I received notification that I had been given my wings. I thoroughly enjoyed reasonablerobinson's beautiful flower images and the information on gardening with penstemons, so of course I sprinkled some sparkly dust!

News flash!

I just learned that blessings "wear off" after a time. Strange. Apparently we can bless the same lens again and again and again, every 90 days or so, if it's still angel-dust worthy. Thank goodness!

Alternative housing solutions

Not everyone lives in traditional housing. These lenses give us a peek into non-traditional housing solutions.

Animals and other critters

Pets, spiders, lizards and frogs, lions and tigers and bears, oh my! Animals and other critters bring joy to our lives, teach us how to behave in the world, fill us with wonder and awe, and remind us to take care of Mother Earth. Here you will find some of the best pages on Squidoo about our sister and fellow creatures on this planet we all call home.
Loading

Arts and Crafts

When I need a little break, I like to peruse art and crafts lenses. They cheer, inspire, educate and sometimes motivate me to do something I haven't tried before or to relearn a skill.
Loading

Baby names and gear

Do Squids have babies? Of course they do! And we're writing plenty of fun things about having them, raising them, feeding, clothing, and playing with them.
Loading

Biographies, history, first-person stories and tributes

We love to tell stories here on Squidoo, and sometimes it's the non-fiction, real-life accounts that touch us more deeply than any fiction.

Fiction, poetry, creative writing

Writers read long before we write, and most of us never fall out of love with the power of the written word. Here you'll find lenses that celebrate great (and sometimes merely entertaining) fiction and poetry, as well as pages that help us all write better.
Loading

Foodie Heaven

Squidoo is foodie heaven, so much so, that I had to make a separate lens just for the food lenses I Squid-Angel dusted.
Loading

Fun and Games

Want to learn something new and fun? Or improve your game skills? There's probably a lens for that.
Loading

Gardening and herbacious plants

Gardening is a past-time and a passion for many of us on Squidoo and we put out a prodigious number of stellar lenses showcasing gardens and plants we love and sharing our gardening expertise. In fact, so prolific gardeners are we, that I had to build an entirely new page just for the fabulous gardening lenses I've blessed.

Green living on Squidoo

I hang out a lot on the Green Living pages here on Squidoo, and there are plenty of stellar lenses to sprinkle with angel dust. This category quickly grew so large, it deserves its own page. You'll find lenses full of tips on recycling, reusing and repurposing almost everything; living off the grid; and much, much more. Each one of them, easy to read, many entertaining as well as informative. The list keeps growing. Take a look.

Head Trips

Sometimes Squids get quite brainy.
Loading

Healthy living

Another Squidoo category I frequent is Healthy Living. Healthy living is all about making choices that ensure we get well when we're not, stay well when we are, have plenty of energy to do the things we want and continuously improve our quality of life.

Fortunately for the rest of us, many Squidoons share generously the knowledge they've gained through the hardship of illness. Others, determined to maintain the good health we are fortunate to have, share what we've learned about regaining it when we've lost it and keeping it.

Lensographies & autobiographical stories

Squidians are superb at sharing the love. Many have produced lenses showcasing their favorite lenses and lensmasters. In addition to those lenses, you will also find personal lensographies that so inspired, motivated or intrigued me that I blessed them on the spot, as well as autobiographical lenses, many of which tell poignant, often funny, always fascinating stories.

Photography, cameras and getting that shot

Seasonal & holiday pages

Squidoo is rich in holiday and seasonal themes. This is sure to become a lengthy category of blessings.

Occasionally a lens fits in more than one category. I try to avoid it, but you may see a link to a lens more than once here and there.

Social and economic justice

Here you will find lenses about ways we human beings are changing the world by addressing injustice and creating change wherever we live, work and play, including right here on Squidoo.
Loading

Spirituality, inspiration, making peace, communing with Nature

Religion may be one way we express our spirituality, but it is far from the only way. These lenses explore--and sometimes exemplify--the myriad ways we humans express our spirituality and make peace in our lives.
Loading

Squidoocentric

This section is all about lenses by Squids for Squids. Some are made by Squidoo headquarters volunteers and staff. Most are made by ordinary Squidizens, as members of the community sometimes call ourselves.

Some of these lenses, such as the Jenga Challenge 2012, celebrate the near infinite variety of subjects and work we do. Many more share tips for building a successful page and promoting our work, so that more and more people can find our pages.

Travel, Adventure, Places to See, Fun Things to Do

Squidoo is an international community, and our lenses reflect that. Here you will find oodles of personal travel stories about the places we love. You will also find tips on traveling safely and in comfort, as well as other travel-related stories.

Here, too, you will find focused pages on unexpected sites to see, fun things to do while you're visiting and plenty of adventure.

If you like this page

You may also like my LOTD nominations page

When I find a truly stellar lens, I nominate it for Lens of the Day. This page doesn't include every lens I've nominated, because I didn't start it right away, and sometimes I forget to record them here, but it has a lot of them. If you see one you like a lot there, you'll also find a nomination form link so you can add your vote for the lens as well. It's super easy.

What do you think of the Squid Angel program?

It always gives me a little thrill to get that "angel blessing." Go figure. Doesn't take much to make me happy! How do you feel about getting a little angel dust now and then?

OK ... I have a problem here. I was looking for the fridge with all the FREE beer but you don't have any. Anyway, not to be spiteful, I blessed this lens and featured it in Beer Drinking and Squidoo Blessings
