Graffiti

I have always loved graffiti, and I try to photograph all of it everywhere I go. Well, only the stuff I like, which has changed over the years. From classic old school graffiti over street art-kind of stuff to being an admiration of a well placed, beautifully done tag.

This is a display of some of my graffiti photos, ranging from tags over posters to train pieces.

This first one is from Nørrebro, Copenhagen, Denmark. Beautiful tags by the Danish graffiti writer Kegr.

If you have any questions or want to get a copy of one of the pictures in better quality, please contact me or leave a comment. I hope you enjoy the Lens.

Bates

Photo taken in Copenhagen, Denmark

Bates is probably the widest known Danish graffiti artist. He has been a figure in the Danish graffiti community for as long as I can remember, with his classic wild style pieces.

AoDs

Photo taken in Aarhus, Denmark

AoD is a Danish graffiti crew, I remember them being very active in the late 90's, early 2000's, where especially Thek stood out as one of the members.
Back then they often worked with MoA and WHY.

Be nice

Photo taken in Aarhus, Denmark

On the Polaroid below the blue writing in Danish says "Andreas is a jerk"(Andreas er en nar), and then some one stenciled the Danish equivalent of "Be nice"(Tal pænt).
It's not the Worlds greatest graffiti, but I think it's funny with the interaction between the writers.

New work from Banksy

London, England

Ok, so Banksy did a new mural. Depicting children pledging allegiance to a Tesco(supermarket) carrier bag.
On Wednesday March 5 2008, you could read in 'The London Paper' on page 4 'Family's art-felt thanks to Banksy' - the story about the family owning the pharmacy that the Mural was painted on, and the fact that the estimated value of their wall now could be as much as £ 300,000.
As you can see on the photo the children part of the painting has already been covered by plexiglass, to protect it.

Anti Graffiti Campaign

Balham, London, England

Once again, while visiting London this Easter, I found this anti Graffiti campaign poster in Balham.
I especially like their choice of graphic style, using something that looks like a kid's drawing, with the writing on the side of the bag saying 'Graffiti Paint'. And this is what they use to get people to report graffiti, because you shouldn't rely on other to report it.

ITSO

Photo taken in Copenhagen, Denmark

ITSO is a widely known Danish writer, known for his reverse writing style. ITSO has also used a list of other tags like KEGR and FEYS.
Over the years he has been affiliated with a long list of different Danish and foreign crews, like MoA, ViM, MSN and THE.
ITSO has always been doing a lot of solo action.

Book: Wall and Piece

by Banksy

This is a really great book, stuffed with lots of Banksy work.
The works in the book ranges from outside graffiti to his canvas alterations and museum work.
Banksy tells stories about the background of a lot of his pieces, and stories about his ventures when doing the pieces.

MoAs

MoAs piece by KEGR by Copenhagen Central Station.

MoA(Monsters of Art) is a notorious danish crew. They are one of the largest crew in the country, for a long time were the almost the only crew you would ever see on trains.
There has always been a lot of myths, legends and stories about MoA.
MoA often writes with crews like Swedish ViM, British TPG, Norwegian All and MSN from the Netherlands.
Some of the most known members are:
MINS
LES
TRICK
KEGR (now former member)

EXTERIOR - INTERIOR ACT 2

This is a great book about WK Interact and his work, it has tons of great photo's. It shows how WK is doing his amazing works. Both from his art shows and his work on the streets.
Really worth it, if you like the work of WK.

Book: Graffiti Brasil

This is one of my favorite graffiti books, the styles in it is very different from most of the things you would see anywhere else.
It features among a long list Os Gemeos, Onesto and Zezao.
And it has a whole chapter on the classic Brazilian tagging, known as Pichacao.

APHEX Poster (Photo taken in Copenhagen, Denmark)

Erosie

Photo taken in Berlin, Germany

This is a classic Erosie sticker, depicting a bicycle. I found this one on a trip to Berlin.

Erosie is originally from Holland. After getting tired of more conventional graffiti, he started doing throw ups and stickers depicting bicycles, inspired by all the bike wrecks he saw around his city.

Did you remember to paint graffiti today?

Photo taken in Copenhagen, Denmark

I love this sticker, it is a parody of a public service sticker/badge that said 'Did you remember to talk to your children today?'
'Har du husket at male graffiti idag?'
The writing is in Danish, but it says the same as the title 'Did your remember to paint graffiti today?'

Movie: Style Wars

Classic graffiti movie, featuring Seen, as one of the artists still active on the graffiti scene, among many others of course.
The legendary 'CAP' is also in this movie, the guy who gave the name to 'capping' (meaning: destroying or painting over somebody else's graffiti).
This is a classic movie, which has played a great role in the early graffiti movement here in Denmark.
If you haven't watched it yet, do, it's worth it.

André

Photo taken in Copenhagen, Denmark

I love this classic little Monsieur A face, by André. Here he cleverly uses some sort of keyhole for the right eye, I think its brilliant. I found this in downtown Copenhagen.

André is French of origin, and started painting in the mid 80's in Paris. His character is called Monsieur A, and can be seen many places all over the world. (Source: Street Logos by Tristan Mango)
