Grand Theft Auto 4 is the latest major installation in the Grand Theft Auto video game series. The game has been produced by Rockstar Games and although it did originally have an expected release date of October 16th 2007; the game finally emerged on the shelves on April 29th 2008. GTA 4 has been written by Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser and utilizes the RAGE game engine, the same engine used for "Rockstar Games Presents Table Tennis". Approximately 150 game developers have worked hard in order to have made Grand Theft Auto 4 "an entertainment experience categorically superior to the prior cycle's GTA product".
Also, be sure to stock up on an extra Xbox 360 Controller because all of your friends are definitely going to want to play GTA 4 when they come round. The supreme power of Grand Theft Auto always envelops all.

Grand Theft Auto 4 Plot
Niko Bellic, the main character of Grand Theft Auto 4, is an Eastern European immigrant who has come to Liberty City to pursue the "American Dream". His cousin, Roman, has used e-mails talking about the promise of riches to persuade Niko into traveling to America. Women, sports cars, and hot tubs were all awaiting Niko if he just made the trip, but in reality Roman was lying and used the emails to hide his own failures. This is not quite the "American Dream" that Niko was looking for; it's a life however he now must lead. He now finds himself in the very heart of Liberty City (a city based on New York) and settling into his new life as a mobster. It's not a perfect life for the Bosnian war veteran but Liberty City is now his home and due to Roman's lies this is where his life has now taken him.
Niko is in close contact with Roman throughout much of the game and then towards the end there's an all important decision to be made. There are two possible endings and a pivotal decision to be made as to whether or not to forgive Dimitri who has earlier on in the game double crossed Niko. You can choose to forgive him and make a deal, or you can take your revenge; the choice is yours and this will determine the way in which you play out the remainder of the game and bring it to its end.
Grand Theft Auto 4 Locations
The map is smaller than GTA San Andreas, but contains much more detail than has ever before seen with any of the past games in the series. The surroundings always look incredibly realistic and a lot of time and effort has clearly gone into making the settings look as true to life as possible. GTA4 is incredibly aesthetically pleasing and the following are the in-game representations:Broker: GTA 4 equivalent of Brooklyn
Algonquin: GTA 4 Manhattan
Dukes: GTA 4 Queens
Bohan: GTA 4 Bronx
Alderney: GTA 4 New Jersey
Grand Theft Auto 4 Landmarks
Statue of Happiness: GTA 4 Statue of Libery
BOABO: GTA 4 DUMBO
GetALife Building: GTA 4 MetLife building
A Central Park representation is included in the game as well, and also featured in Grand Theft Auto 4 is a Coney Beach representation. Early reports seemed to suggest that there was modelling here on Brighton Beach, UK; this came about due to the fact that Brighton and Hove is a district in East Sussex and the game name of the Coney Beach representation is coincidentally 'Hove Beach'.
Grand Theft Auto 4 Gameplay
If you've had the pleasure of playing the game by now you'll be well aware of the opening sequence of Grand Theft Auto 4. Niko walks to a Brownstone house in Broker and walks up towards the front door. He pushes it open and pulls out his pistol, only to see the living room unoccupied. Bellic proceeds to the kitchen, which is also empty, and pushes open the backdoor. Outside again, he finds a red car and breaks the driver side window. Niko unlocks the car from the inside, gets in, and hotwires the car. After navigating to his next destination, Niko pulls out his cellphone. The cellphone contains various options, like a Phonebook, Organizer, etc... After making a call, Niko informs the person on the other end of the line to meet him at the docks.Sadly planes are not controllable within the game. Helicopters are the only aircraft which may be piloted; it's a shame but hardly a massive issue or problem.
A variety of new actions are now available at the player's very fingertips. Actions such as climbing telephone poles, and calling up women for dates; such further features as these have been implemented in order to make the playing experience a more enjoyable one for the gamer.
There is no physique customization like GTA San Andreas. Sadly only Niko's outfits can be changed. It's more about the gameplay itself than these little novelties this time around; Rockstar have focused on making the game more fun and have wasted as little time as possible with expendable features such as this.
Car hijacking has now been revamped. No longer can you yank a driver out of his car and then drive off. You have to sneak up, break the glass to get in, and then hotwire the car. It certainly adds a little more sport to the process of carjacking and the realism of the event has ultimately been increased.
Multiplayer game play is a great feature in Grand Theft Auto 4. This feature is however not available whilst playing the game in a MMO situation.
Grand Theft Auto 4 Reviews

There are over 900 user comments which have here been left and if you're looking for an excellent comprehensive review then EuroGamer can most definitely provide you with this; it's not quite as epic as some but at 3 pages is still a pretty long one. It's also quite interesting reading the user comments and seeing what gamers around the world have to say about GTA4 here.
- Grand Theft Auto IV (X360) - IGN Review
- With their Xbox 360 review of the game, IGN rated GTA4 10 out of 10 which means they consider the game to be 'Masterful'. The game is given a 7 page write up and I have to say that it's well worth the read; it might take a while to get through it all though.
- Grand Theft Auto IV (PS3) - Gamespot Review
- So what did Gamespot UK think of the game? Well, they said that Grand Theft Auto 4 is "A superb single-player story mode and online support for up to 16 players make this the best Grand Theft Auto game yet." At Gamespot they also give the game a 'Critic Score' of 9.7 based on reviews of the game taken from the scores given by 58 games websites and magazines such as Games Master UK, GameSpy, and PlayStation: Official Mag.
- Grand Theft Auto IV: So Good, It's Criminal
- The UK newspaper The Daily Telegraph gave Grand Theft Auto IV yet another glowing report. I'm sure there must be someone out there that gave the game a slating, of the professional reviews I've discovered however I've failed to find anyone that has given the game less than 8/10. There's good reason for that too; Grand Theft Auto 4 is an absolutely brilliant game and all of these sources will tell you the same.
