What do you think of grandfather clocks?

    There is something so reassuring about the presence of a grandfather clock. They seem to almost preside over the home they are living in. You have done a great job highlighting them here.

    I had never heard of a grandmother clock until now.

    I had no idea where the term "grandfather clock" came from till now. Interesting. I love grandfather clocks. My mom has one ... although she tells me it's called a "grandmother clock" (no joking) for some reason. Perhaps because it's a bit smaller than grandfather clocks? Not sure.

    Occasionally smaller clocks are indeed called grandmother clocks, they are somewhere around 5 ft (1.5m) and even smaller ones are sometimes called granddaughter clocks :)
