Cards for Grandchildren

Sending everyday cards to grandchildren has become my special treat!

Being a grandparent snuck up on me. How did I get old enough to be a grandmother? How did my daughter grow old enough to get married and have not 1, not 2, but soon to be 3 children? I don't know, but I sure am awestruck by the experience! Sending them everyday cards has become my special way to connect with them!

Thank your Grandchild for the Picture!

I am blessed to have my 3 grandchildren live nearby. I don't see them everyday, because I respect their time and their life, but I do see them as often as I can. In between those days... I get to sneak in a card that I mail. It is my special treat - and has become their special treat as well!

In response to a beautiful picture that my 3 year old grandson finger painted for me, I sent him a thank you, to let him know what a treasure it was to receive!

Sending a card to my grandchildren is a treasure!

Vintage Girls at Beach just to say hello, thinking of youA couple of days later, I was thinking about him, and sent him another card - just because.

After that, he called me and asked me when he would receive another card! He enjoyed opening the cards and seeing the pretty pictures I had sent him! It was like a mini book! Well, for the price of a coffee and a stamp, I try and send a card to him a couple of times a week. My daughter tells me how much he enjoys it, and when I see them, our conversation always starts with something like - Gramma - I got your duck card! - or - would you send me a card with a cardinal? That's my favorite bird!
When I come to their house, he proudly shows me his pile of cards, dog-eared, drawn on, and very well loved.

The funny thing is, that I enjoy sending them as much as he enjoys receiving them! It is my little treasure time - my secret time to send him a card - just because - or to share with him a picture of a garden because I like to garden or a ladybug because I saw one at my house!

My granddaughter is old enough now to wait for the mail expectantly for a card from Gramma, too - often "Just Because!"

Introduce your Grandchildren to History, Butterflies, or Gardening

Grandparents love sending cards that share their own interests

civil war flags and hats, grandson thinking of youNow that my granddaughter is 2, and grandson 4, they each receive cards in the mail. This is a great way to teach them about various things. My husband, Grandpa, has a great interest in the civil war, so sending this card opens the door to talk about the battles, uniforms, and flags. It offers a good opportunity to look up books in the library related to the card subject.

Relationship Building

Remember that sending a card can be a wonderful relationship builder. It spans the time we can't be with our grandchildren, and adds to the exciting and awesome relationship we have with them!

Very fun! My senior mom loves to send handmade greetings cards to all her grandkids and now, great-grandkids. She sends them for each holiday, as well as just for fun. Thanks for an interesting lens.

I, too, am blessed to have three grandchildren live near by. Unfortunately, the other three are several hundred miles away. Greeting cards may be just what I need to keep in touch with them.
