Meet My Grand Pups: Amika and Zoie

I would like you to meet my two very adorable Boston Terrier Grand Pups, Zoie and Amika (pronounced "Ameeka").

They are brindle-colored, purebred Boston Terriers and half-sisters from two different litters.

Their people parents are my daughter and my son-in-law.

Amika is on the left; Zoie is on the right. Zoie and Amika are so full of energy and so entertaining. I Love my Boston Terrier Grand Pups!

Meet Zoie - My First Grand Pup!

Meet Zoie, my first Grand Pup! She is 5 years old and spayed. Sweet Zoie looks more like a boy dog than a girl dog. I met Zoie as a puppy. As a puppy, she was a bit aggressive; biting and jumping and biting; for no reason. Her biting was only play biting but it still hurt.

After her little half-sister, Amika, arrived (a year later) Zoie calmed down and took on the role of mom; comforting and disciplining Amika. Although she pretends she's Amika's mom, she still pulls on Amika's neck and face like a sibling. Zoie also likes to play tug of war with Amika and their assorted dog toys. She is fairly independent and will wander off to any room in the house for her nap.

Zoie has this thing about having too much light in her eyes. She will usually snuggle under a blanket to keep the light out of her eyes. Zoie enjoys exploring more than Amika and will sniff and dig up anything. I often find her in the house looking around; peaking out a window; looking under a bed. On occasion, I have caught her digging at my computer paper and digging in the occasional houseplant. Sweet Zoie enjoys being a dog!

She is also fairly obedient and likes to do tricks for treats. She has always confused the sitting down command with lying down but is getting better. If she has to wait too long for a treat she will do all her tricks all at once, which is pretty cute (a combination of sit, stand, role over and speak). Zoie really enjoys a long walk where she can sniff and observe along the way. Her curiosity makes her special. She has really grown up into a pleasant companion dog. I love my Sweet Grand Pup, Zoie!

Meet Amika - My Second Grand Pup

Meet Amika (pronounced "Ameeka"), my second Grand Pup! She is 4 years old, and spayed. Sweet Amika looks like a puppy not a doggy as she is quite small and hasn't filled out. Her face is like a teddy bear. I met Amika as a four-month-old puppy living in a condo in a suburb of Vancouver. She was so tiny. Amika grew-up quickly and learned some bad habits from her half-sister, Zoie. She has always been a follower and can't be left alone. She is the opposite of Zoie who is so independent.

When Amika arrived, she had her big half-sister Zoie to comfort her like her mom. She still likes Zoie to clean, comfort and discipline her. She has also picked up Zoie's bad habit of biting and playing tug of war but she is not as aggressive. She also likes to play tug of war with Zoie and their assorted dog toys. She constantly follows me around the house and is afraid of being left alone.

Sweet Amika has this bad habit of licking everything. Sometimes it is too much when she is licking your legs. It's hard to distract her and get her to stop. She enjoys settling down under a blanket as well but you can still hear her licking. She isn't much of an explorer but enjoys running around the house and playing tag. I think Amika thinks she is a human and not a dog! She is such a baby.

Amika is quite obedient for treats but she isn't a very good listener. She is also a really picky eater. She actually picks up her food from her dish and brings it into the room that you are in or will usually only eat when she has some wet food mixed with her dry food. She is really adorable, as she likes to sit in your lap. She has really grown up into a pleasant lap dog. I love my Sweet Grand Pup, Amika!

Grand Pups Spring Vacation 2009

on Vancouver Island, BC

In April 2009, my Boston Terrier Grand Pups spent a two-week vacation with us at our home on Vancouver Island. We picked them up in Vancouver, BC and brought them over on the BC Ferry while their people parents went on a spring vacation to the Caribbean.

I never would have thought in a million years that I would have Grand Pups or babysit dogs or Grand Pups. The maternal instinct in me made it seem like the natural thing to do. It was just like having Grand Kids visit.

We were really lucky the weather was nice and sunny. The Grand Pups both enjoyed some time in the backyard during the morning, napping in the family room in the afternoon and walking around the neighborhood in the evening.

I only had them out once to have their nails clipped during their two-week visit as the time seemed to go by really fast. My hubby and I enjoyed really their company and are looking forward to having them again. I learned a lot about looking after little dogs, as I hadn't had a dog since ours passed away many years ago. It was a really rewarding experience.

I love my Sweet Boston Terrier Grand Pups!

Grand Pups take Great Pictures

Over the period of two weeks I managed to take quite a few pictures of the Grand Pups. I am hoping to experiment with them one day and turn them into something creative.

Below are a few random pictures I took of Zoie and Amika while they were visiting. They have now returned home to their People Parents in Vancouver, BC.

I hope you enjoyed this lens on "I Love My Boston Terrier Grand Pups!" I don't have grandchildren so I have to brag about them.
