Step-By-Step Tutorial on How To Make Graphic Profile Page on Squidoo

Are you wondering how to customize your profile page with graphics on Squidoo? Check out this tutorial and soon you will have a professional lensmasters page! It's not hard to do it and I know you can make it even better than me. I'm not a very good designer, so this tutorial will be very basic.

On this lens you will find a lot of pictures, I hope that it will load all of them as fast as possible.

Why have I created this lens? I was tagged in Jenga Quest 3 by Serenia! She asked me to do a lens about how to make graphic profile page on Squidoo. I hope you'll like it and perhaps it'll help you learn the basics. Please leave feedback below and tell me what do you think about my first tutorial on Squidoo.

What Do You Need For This Project?

First let me talk about the things you will need for customizing your page.

You will need a program for designing images. You can use free program like Gimp or use Photoshop. I will work with Photoshop.

Another important thing is that you have some kind of hosting for your images. I will use Photobucket, because it's free and everyone can use it. Just register for a new account if you don't have it yet.

Let's Make a Welcome Sign!

Open Photoshop and create a new file. Width will be 450 px and Height will be 520 px.

Then double-click on the layer named Background, because the layer is locked. When you'll click on it, the pop-up will open. Just click OK.

OK, now we will create a welcome sign for our readers. Pick up the Horizontal Type Tool (T); you can use shortcut by clicking on T on your keyboard.

When you will write a Welcome Sign, new layer will be created on the right side above layer Background. My sign will be: Welcome To My Squidoo Profile! You can write anything you like.

Now we have to customize it. I choosed font Nyala and set the leading to 45 pt.

Now it's time to select a style for our sign. Click on Styles tab.
.

I choosed Hardgrad-Orange. I will customize it a little bit further. Click back on layers and double click on "Welcome To My Squidoo Profile" layer. Pop-up with options for your layer will open and here you can change the settings and make your sign look even better.

With my selected style Drop Shadow is added but not enough pixels for me. So first I will add some more shadow. I set Opacity to 45% and added Distance to 4 px and Size of shadow to 2 px.

Then choose Stroke. Set the size to 2 px. When you do this, click OK.

Now choose both layers on the right side, by clicking Ctrl + Mouse Button 1 on both layers. When you have both layers selected, click on the Move Tool (V) and then click on Align Horizontal Centers to align our sign to the center.

That's it, our sign is created!

We Need Something Squidoo!

Now go to Icon Finder and type Squidoo into the search bar.

Now this will show up. Not much about Squidoo, but enough for our design. Click on this box to get transparent icons (better to work with in Photoshop).

Click on PNG and Download your icon to your desktop. When the pop-up will show, click on Save. Then find this icon on your computer and drag it into the Photoshop. When you do that, this will happen:

Click on the button, which the arrow is showing above. Two windows to work with will open. Now hold Ctrl+Alt and drag little Squid icon to your main document (this will copy it to your document).

With pressing Ctrl+J you can duplicate this Squid layer as many times as you want. Do this to costumize your Welcome Sign a bit further. Select one of the Squid layers and then go to Edit-> Transform-> Flip horizontal.

It's up to you how you will organize these Squids. Go create a New Group and name it Welcome Sign.

Ctrl + Mouse Button 1 and select all the layers except the white Background layer and put them into new created group. It will be easier to work if you'll be organized. You can close the group if you click on little Triangle left to your group name. With groups you can find layers easier. If everything is messy, you will lose to much time with searching for the layers.

This module only appears with actual data when viewed on a live lens. The favorite and lensroll options will appear on a live lens if the viewer is a member of Squidoo and logged in.

Stylish Bio Box!

Now we will create a Bio Box. Here you will write something about you. What do you like, your favorite sport, hobby, how old are you and other things.

Create new layer and use Rounded Rectangle Tool (U). With it make a square.

Select this layer and your Background layer (Ctrl+Clicking Mouse Button 1 on these two layers) and then Align Horizontal Centers. Create a new layer and then Ctrl+Mouse Button 1 and click on Square layer.

This will select only the Square layer and nothing else. This means only Square can be modified. Now select Gradient Tool (G) and select two colors below on the left.

I choosed colors #e7e7e7 and #d7d7d7. Now with Gradient Tool (G) make a line through Square layer and when you are doing this, hold Shift too.

When you come with the line to the end of the layer, just release the mouse and keyboard buttons. This will be the result if you did all the things correct.

Create a new layer and click on B and then F5 on your keyboard. This will open the brushes.

It's time to select one brush and with it we will brush Square layer. I selected Curve Claws.

With selected brush, first select white color on the left. Now brush your Square with your selected brush.

Now double-click on Brush Tab (to close them) and then double-click on Layers Tab (to open them). Double-click on Brush layer and pop-up with settings for your selected layer will show up.

Set the Opacity to 25% and UNcheck global. Click on Drop Shadow and set Opacity to 20%. UNcheck Use Global Light and then click OK. Now click on the Move Tool (V) top left and then Ctrl+D to unselect the Square layer.

If everything is correct, you will get something like this above. Now double-click on this layer and set Drop Shadow to 30% and UNcheck Use Global Light. Set the Stroke to 1 px and use color #d0cfcf. Create a new group and name it Bio Box. Put these layers into the group.

Let's Put Some Information In Our Bio Box!

Now select Horizontal Type Tool (T) and write some text into the Bio Box. I will write my name, where I come from, my age and some of my hobbies, so other lensmasters can get to know me more.

Create a group and put those layers in there and name it My Info. In this group select ALL the layers - Ctrl+Mouse Button 1 and Align Horizontal Centers and then Align Left Edges too.

Now click on the layer Name: (your name) and go to Styles. Select one style you like. Then click on Layers Tab and right-click on the layer Name: (your name) and select Copy Layer Style.

Now you must right-click on other layers in this group and select Paste Layer Style (one by one). Now all the layers will look the same, because they will all have the same style.

If you like, you can customize your text further. Now go back to Icon Finder and search for your favorite things: Books, Sport, Music, etc. Use transparent background and download PNG icons. I choosed a Soccer Player, Book and Laptop. Now drag these pictures to Photoshop and do the same as you did earlier with Squid icon.

Now hold Ctrl+Alt+Mouse Button 1 and drag icons to your main document.

DISASTER!!! Yes, my Photoshop FREEZED! :(

I'm so angry right now!!!! I will describe what you need to do next.

Click on one of these new layers and click Ctrl+T to adjust their size. Do this with all of them. Now put them below I Like: sign. Put these layers into a new group and name it My Likes.

For example take a look at my profile picture and perhaps you'll get an idea, how to make your own design.

NOTE:
ALWAYS "SAVE" WHAT YOU ARE DOING ON COMPUTER! Always do a backup! I didn't save it and now my work is gone. Thank God I saved my pictures! :)

How To Put A Created Picture To Your Squidoo Profile Page

So, how do you save pictures in Photoshop for web?

In the top left corner click on File and then click on Save For Web & Devices. Big pop-up will open and on the right side you will have options to choose the pictures type (GIF, JPEG, PNG, ...). Choose JPEG and Save it to your computer.

Now login to your Photobucket account and upload your picture(s).

Click on Direct Link, this will copy the link automatically. Then go back to Squidoo and open your Squidoo Dashboard and go to Edit Bio.

Click Change and paste your picture link into the field. If you have created a lot of pictures, paste all the links here. You need to use HTML codes for images. When you'll finish, click on Save.

This article will show you how to write HTML code for images.

This is our final result.

Now go to your profile page and see how it looks. If something is not good, width, height or anything like this, use HTML codes to move your picture a little bit up, down or resize it etc.

I hope you liked this tutorial. Have a wonderful day!

I have never played in photoshop but I really should be. It has so many fabulous features and I know that most lensmasters do use it to increase the professional look of their webpages. Great topic.

I'm confused. Can you go over it again? I've toyed with the idea of going more graphic, but my learning curves are getting bigger as I get older (not to mention my natural curves, lol) Great tutorial.
