Save over £100 on a week's stay in May, or enjoy a short bargain break

Brockstone Grasmere holiday cottage is perched up high on a south facing hill, so it gets all the sun that's going in the Lake District winter. Many homes and villages in the Lake District are down in the valleys and by the lakes, and pretty though they are, they don't see any sun from November to February.
This picture was taken on Brockstone Cottage terrace in January 2011!

The Terrace and Garden at Brockstone Grasmere self catering cottage.
A south facing sun trap with magnificent views.
Many people who visit the Grasmere and Rydal part of the Lake District will have walked past Brockstone Grasmere self catering cottage.
It is on the wonderful walking route from Dove Cottage Grasmere to Rydal Mount, Rydal. Both of these are famous homes of William Wordsworth..
From Dove Cottage, the road goes uphill for about half a mile, before becoming a track. The last 400 yards of access to Brockstone self catering cottage is along this track- drive with care! After Brockstone Cottage the track is just a walking path. No cars go past- only walkers!

From the terrace, you have amazing view over Rydal Water, and the famous Lake District hills ( called "fells" locally)- Loughrigg, Silver Howe, Wetherlam and the Langdale fells.
As it is perched high up on the hillside, this Grasmere self catering cottage gets all the sun that is going. Down in Grasmere Village, by Grasmere lake, and in the valley, the houses and cottage get very little sun during the winter months, and even in summer the shadow if the hills can restrict the sun. Not at Brockstone- it must be one of the sunniest spots in the Lake District.

"A real Gem in the Lakes"
Review Submitted: June 29, 2010 Date of Stay: June 2010
My spouse and I had a week at Brockstone, and were very sad to leave. This is a superbly equipped cottage with an incomparable view. Two comfortable bedrooms, one twin bedded with a washbasin and tons of storage and wardrobe space, and one a four-poster with washbasin, toilet and shower. The main bathroom is modern, has a great shower, a whirlpool tub and heated towel rails. The kitchen has top-line washer/dryer, dishwasher, glass-topped hob and efficient oven, and is an eat-in with style. The cottage is central-heated. Furniture is far above the standard self-catering norm. The living room has a top-rate TV, DVD and CD players. And the Terrace! We dined outside almost every meal when we were there.
You'll find that everything works (unusual in self-catering); it is immaculately clean; warm and cosy on the wet days (it is the Lake District!), and cool from cross-breezes when the heat rises.
The road/track up is initially a challenge for North American drivers, but after the first two or three trips in and out you'll take it like a rally champion. It's a walkers paradise, literally steps to major trails.
I wanted to put plenty of details in because Brockstone is unique. Self-catering sometimes means inconvenient, make-shift and worn. This cottage is a true beauty, a real five-star. We will return again and again.
