Swarms of Grasshoppers

Grasshoppers have a positive impact on the ecosystem.  Their droppings, known as "frass", contributes to the nutrient content of the soil; providing nourishment for plants.

Birds and other similar predators feed on grasshoppers, helping to maintain the balance of nature. Some grasshoppers grow to such large numbers that they are a serious threat to farmers crops.

Grasshoppers are around in the spring and summer, but are most noticeable in the autumn. Areas with many grasses, small "vacant" lots and gardens are good places to look for them

Look at the area as you walk through. If you can hear the plants moving as you walk, there are most likely grasshoppers around. For best results, search during the middle of the day.  At night, use a flashlight to find grasshoppers roosting on the leaves.

"Swarming" is a general term that can be applied to any animal that swarms. The term can be applied to insects, birds, fish, various microorganisms such as bacteria, and people. The term applies particularly to insects. "Flocking" is the term usually used for swarming behaviour in birds, while "shoaling" or "schooling" refers to swarming behaviour in fish. Grasshoppers Mentioned in the Bible

Leviticus 11:20-22 - All flying insects that walk on all fours are to be detestable to you. There are, however, some winged creatures that walk on all fours that you may eat: those that have jointed legs for hopping on the ground. Of these you may eat any kind of locust, katydid, cricket or grasshopper.

Numbers 13:31-33 - But the men who had gone up with him said, "We can't attack those people; they are stronger than we are." And they spread among the Israelites a bad report about the land they had explored. They said, "The land we explored devours those living in it. All the people we saw there are of great size. We saw the Nephilim there (the descendants of Anak come from the Nephilim). We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them.

Isaiah 40:22 - He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, and its people are like grasshoppers. He stretches out the heavens like a canopy, and spreads them out like a tent to live in.
