The Gratitude Campaign - Thanking Those Who Are Serving & Others

Ranked #509 in Nonprofits, #131,061 overall | Donates to Soldiers Angels, Operation Helmet

A Simple Way to Say 'Thank You'

The Gratitude Campaign is a way for people to say "thank you" quickly and easily to those who serve without even having to approach them.

With a simple hand gesture in sign language, you can easily convey your "thanks" to those who are serving without stumbling around for words, feeling ackward or getting tearful.

The Campaign was started in 2007 by Seattlite Scott Truitt as a simple way of expressing thanks to those who are serving. Word is spreading through News Articles and blog posts.

The Gratitude Campaign is also a good reminder to express your thanks to those that you are grateful for.

A Simple Reminder to Say Thank You

If the only prayer you said in your whole life was,
    "thank you,"
    that would suffice.

The Gratitude Campaign - Thank You Sign

The sign for the Gratitude Campaign's "Thank You" is slightly altered from the traditional American Sign Language "Thank You" (instructions later).

Scott decided to alter the gesture, so the hand starts at the heart (as though pledging) rather than at the chin or lips, then bringing the hand down and out in front of you.

Truitt's translation of this gesture is "thank you from the bottom of my heart."

He hopes the Gratitude Campaign will spread and believes even if soldiers don't know exactly what the gesture means, they'll realize if it originates on the heart, it is a heartfelt message.

My First Signs in the Amazon Spotlight

Baby Einstein - My First Signs

This was the DVD that I purchased to expose my girls to sign language.

Academy Award-winner Marlee Matlin hosts this introduction to 20 common words and phrases from baby's world. The DVD includes mommy, daddy, I love you and more in both spoken and in sign language.

Exposing My Daughters to Sign Language

I purchased My First Signs to show to my 7 and 5 year old daughter's as a way of introducing them to sign language. They were both very interested in learning the different signs.

Soon after the girls watched the video, we were at the local grocery store, where one of our favorite checker is hearing impaired. Both girls were able to share some of their new sign language skills with her, which we continue to do whenever we're in the store.

This year for Christmas, my youngest (in Kindergarten) learned how to sign a Christmas Carol, which she later 'sang' for the checker.

What a great way to simply say thanks. Something not done often enough where our troops are concerned. Thank you for bringing it to light!

    Hi Kirsti,
I just dropped by to read some of your lenses. I've been enjoying myself here. I came across this lens and wanted to let you know that I am an ASL teacher of a small class in our town. I would like to encourage your daughters to continue learning and sharing what they learn with others. It is a most expressive language and if they don't already love it, they will. 5 stars
