Let That Gray Hair Shine
With so many of us Baby Boomers being on the cusp of Senior Discounts, we should learn to Embrace the Gray. After all, Gray Hair is not something acquired over-night. It takes years of living, working, playing, walking, running, laughing and crying to attain the awesome status symbol of GRAY HEADEDNESS.
I did a Google Search for "GRAY HAIR." There were 6,150,000 results. SIX MILLION! That's a lot of Gray Hair, folks.
It did take a while to get used to seeing my reflection with Gray Hair. But I got so tired of coloring my hair. I started changing the color of my hair when I was sixteen. That's forty-five years of lining Miss Clairol's pockets. After clicking on a few of those Google links, I discovered a lot of women stopped coloring their hair for the same reason. It just became a chore rather than something to look forward to with anticipation. I used to think: "Yay, I get to color my hair this weekend!" Now it's (with a big sigh): "Well, crud-buttons! The gray is hanging out all over my head again! Now I'll have to color it this weekend!"
"WELL, NO MORE!" I say, as I firmly plant my feet on the foot-rest of the recliner. The Gray can just go ahead and show. I'll see how it looks when there's enough there to tell something about it. And, the total surprise to me is - I LOVE IT!!! The hues vary from white to silver to light gray through medium to dark gray. I guess Mother Nature really is the best hair colorist after all.

GRAY, AND MY HUSBAND STILL CALLS ME SEXY!!!
A couple of years ago, I went to my favorite neighborhood Beautician and asked her to FROST MY HAIR along the front so the Gray Hair could grow in without having that intense line of demarcation. That was working out great. The next time I went back, she used blonde color instead of silver. Well, that did look nice, so I went along with it. Then she got to where she was coloring ALL my hair blonde which totally defeated my point of going to her. Finally, I just let it start growing out and, to my surprise, I REALLY LIKED IT. At a beauty supply store, I asked for something to color the blonde ends to match the gray. (I was a bit leery of going back to the Beauty Salon.) The salesclerk instead showed me a shampoo which would help soften the look so that it would be a smoother transition from the gray/silver/white, which was growing out, to the blonde which was already there. It seems to help a little. There's still a few inches of blonde left, but it's slowly being whittled away. About every three to four months I trim off another inch. By the end of this year I expect the blonde to be completely gone and I can truly "BE GRAY AND BE PROUD!"(Sounds like a bumper sticker.)
Does Gray Hair Make Us Wiser?
You would think that having lived long enough to have tresses of GRAY, I would be a treasure trove of wisdom. It has been stated that KNOWLEDGE = POWER.
No matter how wise I might appear to be, the impression can be ruined as soon as I start speaking. So I like to smile knowingly with a little twinkle in my eye, and just nod.
The appearance of being knowledgeable + keeping my mouth shut = power.
A Lot of Concern Regarding Hair
John Frieda's Frizz Ease Worked Wonders With My Hair
I LOVE JOHN FRIEDA HAIR CARE PRODUCTS! I didn't realize what a large assortment there is because I always bought mine from WalMart. When I went in to buy my John Frieda stuff, I was invariably disappointed. WalMart just didn't have the space to regularly carry the specific items I use. If they didn't have what I wanted, I just did without. I'm not about to drive from store to store looking for one item. But - I can tell you right now - I am buying my John Frieda from Amazon from this moment on.

John Frieda Frizz Ease Serum. This stuff actually grows hair! Okay, that's a bit over the top. But that's what it seemed like when I started using this stuff. My daughter gave me my first bottle of the serum and I noticed a difference in my hair the first time I used it. Since I bleached my hair for decades, it was in pretty rough condition. Even when I was a teenager, my hair would not grow past the top of my shoulder blades. I'd read that each hair would grow approximately four years and then fall out. However long it grew during those years was all the length I'd get. I just thought my hair was extremely slow growing and that was that. Well, boy howdy! Did I learn a new one! Within two - three years, my hair was down to my waist. I was amazed. Now I know my hair isn't slow to grow, it just needed a little TLC. And John Frieda has the solution - I mean, the serum.
Amazon Has More
I've been very pleased with every Amazon purchase. I also highly recommend John Frieda Hair Care Products.

To Color or Not

Do you Know...

How well do you know your HAIR COLORING HISTORY?
Regarding Gray:
SYDNEY: Researchers have discovered that hair turns grey with age because a natural build-up of hydrogen peroxide hinders the synthesis of melanin, our hair's natural pigment.
I used to love to dye my hair, it was fun to make subtle changes. But now that I have grey, and feel the need to dye, it's not fun. It's tedious! I am still only slightly gray, but I am noticing it more and more.

- Some people look gorgeous with gray hair. I like a little in a man now (the curtains, not the rug - ha). I hope I can pull it off in my later years. We'll see. And BTW, Steve is right, you DO look sexy. (God love a man that can cook). Hope the grandkids and doggies and everyone has a great weekend. I am featuring you in the right sidebar of my 'Squidoo people with a good heart' since you'll be in Part III asap. I have 9 folks in mind now. Fondly, Rose

- Gray hair is beautiful, I agree!! I still have a long way to go before I get there, but I do have one hair that grows out consistently white! (I admit I pluck it, but that's because it's the only one and it likes to stick straight up.) When more of my hairs eventually decide to go gray, I will let them do their thing. What a great lens. :)

- I think gray hair looks fantastic. It makes men look distinguished, and to be honest I think any woman without hair coloring, and caked on makeup looks much more beautiful in her natural form!
