Gray's Anatomy
Ranked #1,643 in Healthy Living, #35,079 overall
No, it's not Grey's Anatomy, the TV series, but actually THE English-language human anatomy textbook Gray's Anatomy!
In another lens I've written, Meniscus Tear, I saw some very cool examples of anatomy drawings from Henry Gray's Anatomy of the Human Body.
What's really cool is that you'll find Gray's drawings throughout the internet as his textbook is widely regarded as a classic work on the subject. The book was first published in 1858 while work on his book was continued by others and on November 24, 2004, the 39th British edition was released.
Gray's Anatomy was originally created on December 25, 2007.

The classic medical text known as Gray's Anatomy is one of the most famous books ever written. Now, on the 150th anniversary of its publication, acclaimed science writer and master of narrative nonfiction Bill Hayes has written the fascinating, never-before-told true story of how this seminal volume came to be. A blend of history, science, culture, and Hayes's own personal experiences, The Anatomist is this author's most accomplished and affecting work to date.

Anyone perusing the last 10 incarnations of this vigorous old warhorse of medical literature will note that a significant change came about with the 35th in 1973, when the visual character of the book began a veritable transformation. Since that time, each edition has incrementally added material covering advances in such fields as molecular biology, imaging, computer-assisted and electron microscopy, embryology and immunohistology to encompass new knowledge and provide didactic clarifications. Henry Gray's original offering of 1858 has taken on the task of providing an overview of the science on which comprehensive understanding of gross anatomy is based in today's biomedical and clinical worlds.

Molecular Biology of the Cell is the classic in-depth text reference in cell biology. By extracting the fundamental concepts from this enormous and ever-growing field, the authors tell the story of cell biology, and create a coherent framework through which non-expert readers may approach the subject. Written in clear and concise language, and beautifully illustrated, the book is enjoyable to read, and it provides a clear sense of the excitement of modern biology.
Molecular Biology of the Cell sets forth the current understanding of cell biology (completely updated as of Autumn 2001), and it explores the intriguing implications and possibilities of the great deal that remains unknown.

- I was familiar with Gray's Anatomy but had know idea that it was first published in 1858. I purchased a marvelously illustrated The Human Body, A visual Guide to Human Anatomy by Dr. Sarah Brewer who incidently is a native of the UK. My local Borders bookstore had a clearance sale and got the "11X14" book for $16; the original price was 50 lbs in the UK
Excellent lens with wonderful unique, relevant, and useful content.

- Not familiar with the TV show, but as a nurse, I am very familiar with Gray's Anatomy, the book. It's an awesome reference for the medical professional and my guess is that an artist would greatly appreciate the drawings as well!
