Essential Considerations For Eating In A Greasy Spoon

So you're on a long car trip and fancy a nice cooked breakfast. What signs should you look out for to guarantee a great fry up?

Here are a few humorous but accurate considerations:

Lorries
If you see a number of parked Lorries, this is a great sign there is good food on offer. Truckers tend to have a favourite stop over, and they wouldn't stay at a place that dishes a bad fry up!

Big Mugs
A true cafe will use nice big mugs for the perfect cup of tea. None of this cup and saucer nonsense!

Fly Catcher
Look out for one of those big blue aluminous buzzing fly catching zappers. These are traditional in a true greasy spoon.

The Menu
The menu should be basic, if you see lobster on the menu you are not in a traditional greasy spoon - leave immediately.

Position
The traditional greasy spoon is either located on the side of a busy dual carriage way, and industrial area or within a local shopping community.

Waiter / Waitress
They should never have clean overalls, if they do they are not cooking or serving enough. Ask yourself why?

Value For Money

The traditional local cafe will offer a no frills fry up, but will be of great value and quantity.

The fry up should consist of:

Sausages - at least 2
Bacon
Fried or Scrambled Egg
Fried Bread - 1 slice
Mushrooms
Beans

Chips - Optional

Bread and Butter
HP Sauce / Heinze ketch-up
