Let an imagination take flight...
Books let us fly. They feed our imaginations by taking us to new places, and new worlds. A good book is a sore thing to miss and a book in the hands of a child is an irreplaceable gift.
I will never forget how fascinated I was by books as a child, how they showed me new ways of life and the struggles faced by others.
This page is a review of some of the best children's book, the most loved and those who have stood the test of time.
Dr. Seuss!
Your Favorite Seuss: A Baker's Dozen by the One and Only Dr. Seuss
From his very first book to his very last book, here in one big volume are 13 classic Dr. Seuss stories, everyone's favorites. All of the words and virtually all of the illustrations are included. Each story is prefaced by a short essay by someone whose life was changed by Dr. Seuss or who is simply an unabashed admirer. Also included are photographs of Dr. Seuss, memorabilia, and original sketches from his books. The stories included are: And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street, Horton Hears a Who!, McElligot's Pool, If I Ran the Zoo, Happy Birthday to You!, Dr. Seuss's Sleep Book, Yertle the Turtle, The Cat in the Hat, How the Grinch Stole Christmas!, Green Eggs and Ham, The Lorax, The Sneetches, and Oh, the Places You'll Go!
Theodor Geisel (a.k.a. Dr. Seuss) was born March 2, 1904, and died September 25, 1991.
Teach a Child to Read
When I was 4 my mom started teaching me how to read and write so I would be prepared for school. It surprises me to know that this is not a common practice, that some people never take the time to sit down with their children and read to them, much less teach them how to read. The greatest gift one can give a child is the ability and desire to read.I am shocked even more by this statistic:
The sun did not shine. It was too wet to play.
So we sat in the house all that cold, cold, wet day.
I sat there with Sally. We sat there, we two.
And I said, "How I wish we had something to do!"
-from The Cat in the Hat by Dr. Seuss
Thirty-eight percent of all fourth graders in the United States can't read this simple poem.
I think that in a country like America we should have better statistics. Commit yourself to reading daily to your child, and to making sure they know how to read. Do not leave it up to the Public School System.
Spotlight: Corduroy by Don Freeman
Corduroy the Bear by Yottoy
Last Christmas, my sister told us how she had loved Corduroy as a child and wanted her 1 year old to have the books, too. My mother and I thought it would be simple to buy a few books, but little did we know that not only are there well over 20 books by Don Freeman but there is also a stuffed Corduroy bear created by Yottoy. Once we found out the bear existed we had to have him but we soon found out that he'd sold out in most stores (including Amazon.) However, a few Google searches later and I found two online shops who still carry him! Get him before he's gone!Corduroy Bear 13" Plush Toy by Yottoy
Corduroy is one of the best loved bears in children's literature for over 35 years. He comes to life as a soft caramel-colored fur creation that is perfectly complemented by the rich green of his removable corduroy overalls, embroidered eyes and hand-stitched nose. Just as in his story about a small bear that has lost one of his buttons Corduroy humbly displays his lone blue button... but we've added a surprise! Tucked inside his loose overall strap, we've hidden another securely attached blue button that youngsters never tire of finding.

Classic Corduroy Books
Corduroy
Have you ever dreamed of being locked in a department store at night? The endearing story of Corduroy paints a picture of the adventures that might unfold (for a teddy bear at least) in such a situation. When all the shoppers have gone home for the night, Corduroy climbs down from the shelf to look for his missing button. It's a brave new world! He accidentally gets on an elevator that he thinks must be a mountain and sees the furniture section that he thinks must be a palace. He tries to pull a button off the mattress, but he ends up falling off the bed and knocking over a lamp. The night watchman hears the crash, finds Corduroy, and puts him back on the shelf downstairs. The next morning, he finds that it's his lucky day! A little girl buys him with money she saved in her piggy bank and takes him home to her room. Corduroy decides that this must be home and that Lisa must be his friend. Youngsters will never get tired of this toy-comes-alive tale with a happy ending, so you may also want to seek out Dan Freeman's next creation, A Pocket for Corduroy. (Ages 3 to 8)
A Pocket for Corduroy
Don Freeman's classic character, Corduroy, is even more popular today then he was when he first came on the scene over thirty years ago. These favorite titles are ready for another generation of children to love.
Corduroy Lost and Found
A classic character in children's literature for nearly forty years is back for a brand-new adventure! Corduroy the beloved bear slips out very early one morning to get a birthday present for Lisa. He spies what he thinks is a yellow balloon up in the sky, thinking that would be perfect for her. But when the sun rises, the balloon (really the full moon) disappears. And now Corduroy is lost. Lisa finds him, but not before Corduroy succeeds in getting just the right gift-a lollipop as yellow and round as the moon. This brand-new Corduroy picture book is written in the whimsical style of Don Freeman and illustrated in the exact scratchboard technique he used to create Corduroy and A Pocket for Corduroy.
