Update. Our Cat Sugar passed, and we have two darling cats, Muffin and Sunshine. We have found that their preference is different than Sugar's. I'll share their preference below.

We tried various cat litters in the past
for different reasons. But our cat Sugar didn't take to any of them as quickly as she took to Arm & Hammer Essentials Natural Clumping Litter
! : ) (Whenever we introduce a new kind of litter, we mix in some of the old used litter with it, to make it more cat user friendly.)The litter we were buying that Sugar was liking was no longer on the store shelves, and we tried several stores in the area. We did find one that she seemed to be okay with, but then I saw this one. It was made by the same company of the one that she liked, and it was also biodegradable. The package said it was soft and that cats preferred standing on this compared to clay litters. So I decided to give it a try.
Another plus is that this litter is lightweight. It makes the garbage bag so much lighter!
The Essential's litter has Sugar's approval.

With our cat Sugar, we usually used a 50/50 mix now with the Ah Essentials and Unscented Arm and Hammer Scoopable litter.
The Ah Essentials by itself was tending to break apart too easily, especially with two cats that like to dig and cover things up well. So we started adding in the Arm and Hammer Scoopable. We prefer buying the unscented litter, as we have read that cats usually prefer less perfume smells. Mixing the two litters works pretty well.

Muffin and Sunshine would like to share their cat litter preference
Sunshine likes to dig quite a bit and we found that we needed to get something that held up better. After a few tries of various litters, we found one that everyone was satisfied with.

I like a tall litter box.
It helps to keep more of everything contained.
Since we keep the litter box in the basement, I also don't use the lid. It makes it easier for the cats to come and go, and makes scooping easier too.

A Cat Litter Cather Mat helps to keep ours cat's paws and floor cleaner.
I like the textured construction. It helps to capture more litter off of the cat's paws.
We use a diaper pail to dispose of soiled cat litter.
Whatever litter we have used, we found that a Diaper Pail
turned out to be our best bet for throwing away the used litter. We place a tall kitchen trash bag into the diaper pail; we then place the used litter that has been scooped out into a small plastic bag, i.e. grocery bag, tie it, and then place that into the lined diaper pail. We also add some Baking Soda
to the larger bag in the diaper pail. More on Cats:

- We are still having the cat litter debate in our house. What one cat likes, the other doesn't. I like the Essentials because it doesn't smell. Lady Ghost is more picky. Actually she doesn't like any litter box that our other cat Wiley uses, and he tries them all out. So...still searching for a good solution. My what deep conversations you can get in about cats. - Kim, I looked up excavator to see what it means. I found out it means one who excavates, so digging. This lighter weight litter isn't sticky like some of the other clumping litters we have tried. The safflower seed combintation sounds interesting. Our cat didn't go for the feline pine. I guess that's one of the reasons why there are so many options.

- I'll lensroll this to my litter box lenses. The boxes I use aren't compatible with clumping litter, but a lot of people like it. I use Feline Pine and safflower seed from the feed store. My cats are excavators, so the clumping litters are always sticky and problematic for me.

- The package says to dispose of in trash, do not flush or put in drain.
