Dragons are special gifts with power

Dragons have been in many cultures, from China to India to Europe. Over the whole world you can find dragons in different shapes and in different roles. Sometimes the are the goodies, sometimes the baddies.
For the dragon lovers among us Asia is the place to be, but not everybody can go on a holiday to China and see all the dragon temples.
It's not only China's culture though which has a tradition with dragons. For us dragon fans other cultures share the same interest.
In India the dragon is the personification of drought and enemy of Indra, and sometimes has three heads.
And in Persia the dragon is often painted upon a banner when the soldiers go to battle. The Chinese are famous for there dragon dances and tattoos.
But it's not only in the far east where the dragon lives. In Europe there is a long tradition of dragons as well. Remember Saint George and the Dragon. Saint George (ca. 275/281 - 23 April 303) was, according to tradition, a Roman soldier in the Guard of Diocletian, who is venerated as a Christian martyr. He is immortalized in "The tale of Saint George and the Dragon" and is one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers. His memorial is celebrated on 23 April, and he is regarded as one of the most prominent military saints.
So there you go, when J.R.R. Tolkien wrote the Hobbit, he didn't create it all from scratch. Smaug the golden dragon came from a tradition of European myths.

For all the dragon fans out there I brought some lovely dragon gifts together, and even wrote a little story about the dragon Ming

The Story of Ming the Dragon

And his great gift for the village people.

chinese dragonFor once there was a little golden dragon in China and they called him Ming.
Ming the golden dragon was a wise creature, an patient too.
The chinese living nearby in a village had it made to there custom to bring the dragon gifts. Every monday morning one of the villagers went to the dragons den and put a bowl with milk at the entrance. And so the dragon Ming was pleased with the gift. The villagers loved Ming, he was a nice litle golden dragon. But sometimes at night the villagers heard a roaring sound comeing from the den, and at such moment they where afraid and put there security alarms on, because you never knew...
But in the morning every thing was fine, no dogs where missing or goats slaughtered, and life went on as usual. But one day after so many nights of terror and false allarms a brave woman called Tchi couldn't take it anymore and was curious about the source of the roaring sound in the middle of the night. That devastating sound that stole the dreams of many villagers.
And so she crept silently to the dragons den to have a peek. And she was incredibly suprised at what she saw.
The little dragon Ming was in front of a microphone and doing some karaoke. This was too much!! Tchi stood up and revealed herself, and by doing so she caught the little dragon by surprise. Tchi told Ming about all the people in the village, that they where afraid and bought for thousends of dollars alarm instalations and that they couldn't sleep at night.
Ming was ashemed and he said that he was not aware that his "singing" was so load.
Yes well, said Tchi, if you had put off your head phones you could have heard for yourself, you litle brat!!!
I'm sorry,I will not use my superduper Sony equipment again. And I will only sing unpluged, promised Ming.
Ok, Tchi said, but if you do it again, you won't get any gifts of us any more, understood!
Yes mam murmured Ming.
And so Ming got a new name. From now on he was called "Ming the unplugged singing dragon" , and the village people where dragon lovers once again and they made a sculpture for him which can still be seen on the roof of the Longshan Temple.
