Ranked #8,446 in Holidays & Celebrations, #144,349 overall

For the author, blogger, journalist, scribbler, and note jotter on your holiday list.

While technology can be a distraction, it can also be a writer's secret to success. Organization, inspiration, and the ability to work anywhere at any time are all benefits of technology and writer-friendly gadgets.

Technology can be a writer's friend. In addition to the internet and a computer which have made writing a very viable business opportunity, there are some fantastic gadgets. Here are four little gadgets for writers.

LiveScribe Pen

The LiveScribe pen was originally designed to help students take better notes. In addition to being able to digitally record what you write, it also records your voice or the voice of a lecturer or speaker. This means you can write longhand and upload the audio and the actual content onto your computer. It's great for blogging, planning, and a number of other tasks.

However, for writers the real benefit comes from the MyScribe software that users can download. The MyScribe software translates your handwriting into text. This gadget then offers writers the ability to write from anywhere without having to haul their computer with them. You no longer have to spend hours typing your work longhand either. It's a fantastic gadget for writers.

Netbooks

I *heart* my netbook! (and I'm on it right now)

Those tiny little laptops are seriously handy. Smaller than a standard laptop, you can fit one in a small bag or purse. They're much easier to carry around. You can write while you're sitting in traffic. You can write from a coffee shop, while waiting at the doctor's office - just about anywhere. With a notebook you're no longer chained to your desk or forced to haul around a giant laptop.

(This little red HP netbook is the one I have and I love it!)

I want everything on here, but I think that pen is my favorite. I've never heard of such a thing....that makes me sound totally not with it, doesn't it? If I had that pen, it would accompany me to those endless soccer practices and keep me productive.

Honestly I haven't seen the Livescribe pens advertised in a really long time! They used to advertise them for high school and college students for note taking, but I know a lot of writers and marketers that use them for mind maps and other things and love them!
