The falling of the Berlin Wall is massive though I think and was left out.

- I was at school when a teacher came in and told us that a plane hit the World Trade Center. At first we were all grumbling about drunk or suicidal pilots. Then the second plane hit. All day in every class we left the news on. We thought this was the beginning of a new World War.

We spent much of that day trying to get in touch with him. He had had to walk home through all the chaos that ensued.

- I was a senior in college in Indiana, got up and turned the tv on to watch the Today show like I normally did before class, just in time to watch the 2nd plane hit - I spent the next 2 hours glued to the screen. I don't remember the rest of the day, or week...somehow I managed to drag myself to class between phone calls to family on the east coast.

- I was at McDonald's waiting to meet my son. The first tower went down while I waited on him (I had the radio on in car). I had designed some fliers for him & he was picking them up. He arrived, I gave him the fliers then we talked in amazement about the tower being hit. Then went our separate ways. On the drive between McD's & home, the 2nd tower was hit. Wow! I remember every detail of that day.

I remember the servers were going nuts because everyone was trying to log on to the news to see what was happening. - My boyfriend lived in Metairie (just outside, west, of New Orleans proper) - he lost everything except the few things he had in the car to that storm. I remember lots of desperate phone calls, then texts, then nothing as the phone died - he spent 10 hours trying to get to Baton Rouge to safety, then spent a week in Houston at relatives'. He relocated to the east coast when he found his apartment had flooded and everything was gone or molded. 6 years later and that storm is still known in our house (in New Hampshire away from the coast!) as "that b**ch" !

It was nowhere near as bad as Katrina, but it got no news time due to the events happening in New Orleans. - I don't really remember much about when I heard this for the first time. I think my mind sort of brushed it off at first though as we often hear about natural disasters on the other side of the world and because they are so far away, they do not really mean much. There is always some sort of flood, earthquake or cyclone going on somewhere. This one hit home with me more as it went on and I saw how bad the damage was and heard about how poorly the USA officials responded to it.

- During the attack my grandmother and my father (age 1) were flying to Hawaii when the plane was ordered to turn around. Eerie...

- Wasn't born yet, but have watched numerous documentaries and news stories, as well as movies about it. Even after experiencing 911, I can't imagine how the nation felt at the time.

- I was 7 years old when Pearl Harbor was attacked; Mother & Daddy were listening to the radio. I didn't understand exactly what had happened, but somebody, I didn't know who (the "japanese"? Did they live in KS?) had done something really, really bad to Americans. I was very scared, and went out, got my cat, went to my bedroom, and got under the bed. I was afraid they were coming to our house.

- This was before I was born, but my husband remembers it. He was a little fellow but was impressed with all the fear and emotion.

- Wasn't born then but this made a big impression on my parents. We will be sharing this with our child today, just as it was shared with us. Important day in history that is being lost as the survivors dwindle. This was a real fight for our freedom.

- Before my time, but have heard many stories from my parents. Got to visit the Pearl Harbor Memorial. Every American should try and visit if they go to Hawaii. It is a lifetime experience.

- I was born in the 50s after WWII but I visited Pearl Harbour in 1972 while on vacation. My dad was only 10 in 1941 so he probably wouldn't remember either.

- How about some more joyous occasions - the wedding of Charles and Diana or of William and Kate - The whole family was just as gripped to the TV!

- No, I think you got the important ones. I wouldn't include any of the extra ones you asked about, which, while perhaps signigicant to some, are not as monumental as the ones you included

- Great LoTD - well done! I would have added the deaths of Diana & Micheal Jackson, the Challenger disaster - I remember that so clearly because my dad had told me all about the teacher who was going to space.

- Congrats on a great idea for a lens. I would add deaths of Princess Diana, John Lennon, JFK jr. and Michael Jackson. The start of Desert Storm.
Thank you for including the Anniversary Response lens as a resource.

Color TV's, First Super Highway (Interstate) coming through your home town, First Tooth pulled, first broken bone, first child born. So many 1st it is really hard to remember them all.

- Congratulations on the LOTD. I was stranded near Komodo Island, the Indonesian archipelago, when Princess Diana died. The plane had broken down and by the time I got back to civilization I may have been the last person on the planet to find out about the accident.

- Congrats on LOTD Virginia, this is an awesome page. Princess Diana and John Lennon would be worthy inclusions here. I remember the day Diana died as I was upset that the football game I had planned watching on TV was not on due to every channel covering her death.

- The death of Elvis Presley. I was quite young and had been on holiday in France. The first thing the guard said to us at the border at crack of dawn was that Elvis had died.
The second was the death of Princess Diana. Inspirationally creative idea for a lens!
