I was at school when a teacher came in and told us that a plane hit the World Trade Center. At first we were all grumbling about drunk or suicidal pilots. Then the second plane hit. All day in every class we left the news on. We thought this was the beginning of a new World War.

My husband and I were getting ready to go to a weekly senior bowling leage ... and we immediately thought about the son, who worked in a building just across from the WTC. Turns out he saw it all. We spent much of that day trying to get in touch with him. He had had to walk home through all the chaos that ensued.

I was a senior in college in Indiana, got up and turned the tv on to watch the Today show like I normally did before class, just in time to watch the 2nd plane hit - I spent the next 2 hours glued to the screen. I don't remember the rest of the day, or week...somehow I managed to drag myself to class between phone calls to family on the east coast.

I was at McDonald's waiting to meet my son. The first tower went down while I waited on him (I had the radio on in car). I had designed some fliers for him & he was picking them up. He arrived, I gave him the fliers then we talked in amazement about the tower being hit. Then went our separate ways. On the drive between McD's & home, the 2nd tower was hit. Wow! I remember every detail of that day.

I was in bed asleep when my daughter rang and said the US was being attacked and to turn the radio on. My sister appreciated me calling her as well. We then watched until the early hours of the morning.

I was at work it was just after lunch time and one guy announced that a plane had hit the World Trade Center - we all thought it was a horrible accident, until the second one hit. I remember the servers were going nuts because everyone was trying to log on to the news to see what was happening. I'll never forget my journey home that day because I came home by Heathrow airport and the skies were empty.

I was at the office, sitting at my desk working, when a co-worker came in and said a plane had just hit the North tower. I went to another office to watch the TV and saw the second plane hit. I also remember my boss was traveling that day and was stuck at the airport.

This I don't remember so clearly. I was in college, and I live in Texas, but my area was not directly affected by the hurricane. My college has a campus in Galveston, though, so for a few weeks we had students from the Galveston campus in our classes.

I was following Katrina's every move on TV and on weather forums on the net, as I do every tropical system, from tropical lows right up to monster storms. I'm a bit of a tropical weather system junkie, as I live in hurricane country (though not the gulf coast.)

My boyfriend lived in Metairie (just outside, west, of New Orleans proper) - he lost everything except the few things he had in the car to that storm. I remember lots of desperate phone calls, then texts, then nothing as the phone died - he spent 10 hours trying to get to Baton Rouge to safety, then spent a week in Houston at relatives'. He relocated to the east coast when he found his apartment had flooded and everything was gone or molded. 6 years later and that storm is still known in our house (in New Hampshire away from the coast!) as "that b**ch" !

I was in Mumbai where I was stuck indoors for 24hrs with no electricity or water because there was extensive flooding in the area. It was nowhere near as bad as Katrina, but it got no news time due to the events happening in New Orleans. I only found out about Katrina after speaking to my family back home in London and saw it on the news once the electricity was back on.

I was home watching the weather station to see if we were going to get any of the storm here in Tallahassee, and praying New Orleans wouldn't get a direct hit. Then watching the horrific stories of those poor people after the storm hit.

I don't really remember much about when I heard this for the first time. I think my mind sort of brushed it off at first though as we often hear about natural disasters on the other side of the world and because they are so far away, they do not really mean much. There is always some sort of flood, earthquake or cyclone going on somewhere. This one hit home with me more as it went on and I saw how bad the damage was and heard about how poorly the USA officials responded to it.

Oh, my - I was a junior in high school, and home sick with toncilitis. Bedded down on the couch, I was watching the Dallas parade on TV when it happened. Immediately got up, went to the phone, and called the school... they didn't believe me at first, even though I was a good student, not prone to pranks. It was a sad time for our country.

I was a freshman in college, walking to my music class and everyone time I passed people I could hear them saying "Kennedy". This seemed to be more than just mention of a president. The instructor said: "I know you are all upset about Kennedy being killed, but we have to hold class anyway. Then, I noticed people were already in tears.

I've watched a show last night where there's a group of cake makers who created this BIG cake for the celebration of the first walk in the moon. They created a replica of the even and Buzz Aldrin was there. The cake was amazing and the event/celebration looks good! Making that cake is definitely time consuming and tiring but I'm sure it is all worth it!

I was a young student, in the classroom and we were watching the Dallas parade on television...a special treat for our 6th grade class. When the teacher realized what had happened she turned the TV off and asked us to put our heads on our desks and stay quiet. She dashed out of the classroom for a minute or two, I imagine to confirm with others what she thought she had seen. She came back in and told us that the President really had been shot. The kids all began to cry..... it was frightening.
