Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to introduce you to a great-tasting white wine!

We recently attended a very special wine-tasting party and were introduced to a wonderfully great-tasting white wine that comes in the prettiest cobalt blue bottle. That's a peek at the actual bottle. The name on the label is Pieroth Blue 2008 Burg Layer Schlosskapelle. It's a Kabinett that is a product of Germany.

A Great-Tasting White Wine -- Pieroth Blue 2008 Burg Layer Schlosskapelle Kabinett

We were more than a delighted when we initially tasted the Pieroth Blue 2008 Burg Layer Schlosskapelle Kabinett at our recent wine-tasting party. For us, it was an instant appreciation for the crisp, fresh, light, slightly fruity, and very pleasing taste of this Kabinett from Germany. To us, it's a medium dry, medium fruity type of taste.

Our first order of this great-tasting white wine was for 6 bottles at about $18.50/bottle

Researching A Great-Tasting White Wine -- More about Burg Layer Schosskapelle Kabinett

I've been researching the Ferdinand Pieroth Burg Layer Schosskapelle Kabinett online to learn more about this great-tasting white wine.  The chart of wines produced by Ferdinand Pieroth Winery gives you a good idea of the various wine types.

In my research, I came across an interesting blog post of September 22, 2008 by dhonig, a cartoonist and wine geek.  His review was of a 2001 Ferdinand Pieroth Burg-Layer Schosskapelle Spatlese -- of the Kerner white grapes in the Nahe Region of Germany.  He described that variety of white wine as having a slightly thick feel with a fairly complex taste.

At Wine Dog, I found a listing of a 2006 Burg Layer Schlosskapelle Auslese, produced by Kreuznacher Weinhaus with the Reisling grape from the Nahe Region in Germany.  The suggested price per bottle is listed as $19.99.  "The Nahe region of Germany historically bottled its wines in cobalt blue bottles produced locally where the soil conditions produced the color naturally at the local glassworks. By tradition, only Nahe wines should be presented in the 'Blue Bottle.'"  Wine Dog says, "Nahe wines offer a mixture of both Mosel character and Rhine. This medium fruity late harvest Auslese is filled full of ripe green apples with just a hint of honey and peach."

Wine Dog also had a listing for a 2007 Burg Layer Schlosskapelle Kabinett.  For one of the most versatile wines produced worldwide, and specific to Germany, Wine Dog states that the Kabinett is the pick.  The Kabinett wines offer a taste that is just right -- neither too sweet nor too dry!  "The Bacchus grape provides a unique taste experience with hints of honeyed fruit, tropical characteristics and a terrific flowery nose."

What is a Kabinett?

Kabinett (literal meaning: cabinet), or sometimes Kabinettwein (literal meaning: a wine set aside in a cabinet), is a German language wine term for a wine which is made from fully ripened grapes of the main harvest, typically picked in September, and are usually made in a light style. In the German wine classification system, Kabinett is the lowest level of Prädikatswein, lower in ripeness than Spätlese.Deutsches Weininstitut (German Wine Institute): Quality categories, accessed on May 21, 2008 A German Kabinett is semi-sweet (lieblich) by default, but may be dry (trocken) or off-dry (halbtrocken) if designated so.

In Austria, Kabinett is subcategory of Qualitätswein rather than a Prädikatswein, and the term always designates a dry wine.Wines from Austria: Quality Designations in Detail, accessed on May 21, 2008

Great-Tasting White Wine -- Must Be Kept in a Wine Cooler

Vinotemp VT-TC32SB 32-Bottle Wine Chiller Black Body with Stainless Door Trim

This is the very wine cooler that our friend Dave has. He was showing it to us the other night when we were at their house for a pizza party. You see, Dave is a wine collector who buys and sells wines. He is quite the authority -- I've been working on him now for a couple of years trying to get him to join Squidoo. You see, he knows SO much about wines that I know he would write some wonderful lenses on great-tasting white wines. But in the meantime, I'm sharing what we found to be a great-tasting white wine -- that really should be kept in a good wine cooler like the Vinotemp!

Our Friend Dave Recommends the Vinotemp Wine Cooler!
