Gunsmoke

A Great Westerns

I think Gunsmoke was our all time favorite of the Classis TV Western Shows.

Gunsmoke ran from 1955 to 1962 with a few new shows.. special ..popping up now and then.We have Matthew..Matt..Dillon as Marshal of Dodge city and his deputies are Festus I loved his voice, Newly and Thad help keeping peace in there frontear town. With help from Doc Adams..believe it or not.. I also have a real live Doc Adams treating my RA..and Miss Kitty the saloon owner that Matt was sweet on.

The Rifleman

Chuck Conner

I take the time to watch all the Old Westerns when they are on, Chuck Conner was bigger than life in his roll as The Rifleman.Lucas McCain and his young son Mark run there small ranch outside the town of Northfork.

He is an expert markman with his winchester rifle.I always made sure I was right there in front of the tv so I could see him use that rifle when the show first come on, My Daddy made a point telling us how quick and fast he was and how good you had to be to use a rifle like that. Lucas McCain helped the town marshal Micah keep the peace.

Richard Boone

Have Gun will Travel

Back in 1957 the year I was born a new western show started playing on cbs. Richard Boone played the man called Paladin in Have Gun Will Travel. This was a very good show. The first year it played it was #4 and was # 3 for the next three years. It ran for six years.

It was a violent show filmed in black and white.paladin killed many men, true enough-but his victims were alway deserving.

I loved all of these old westerns! We still watch Rifleman reruns almost every day. Bonanza was another of my favorites. :)

You should check out The Wild Bunch - best gunfight scene in any movie. For modern westerns Tombstone is pretty good.

Some great westerns here - I haven't seen them all, but it is virtually impossible to think "western" without thinking "John Wayne".

Wow, a lot of nostalgia here. I remember all these, especially Chuck Connors. Did you know he played for the Dodgers? He sent me a photo signed, half of it was as a cowboy, the other half a Dodger. My favorite newer Westerns include Tombstone, Pale Rider and Dances with Wolves. Squid Angel blessed!

I read my way through all the Zane Grey books at one time, and used to watch all these shows on TV. Now my hubby likes watching vintage westerns, but I'm too busy making Squidoo lenses to sit with the TV anymore.
  • flinnie May 3, 2012 @ 2:29 pm | delete
I still watch these when I have the time.
