Great 90+ Wines Under $20

Great Wines at a Great Price

In the wine world a wine which has received a rating of 90 points or higher means that it is a wine of high quality. The good news is that there are many great 90 wines out there that you can buy for under $20. Great wine doesn't always mean high price. Most of these wines aren't hard to find. Most liquor stores with a decent selection will probably have most of them. You can also purchase any of these online.

Luna Freakout

A Napa Valley blend of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc & Pino Grigio. Rated 91 by Wine Spectator. Great with snacky foods like cheese & crackers. Generally runs between $11.50 - $15.00.

2008 Eradus Sauvignon Blanc

This wine rated 91 points by Wine Enthusiast. It's a medium to full-bodied New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. Would pair well with all seafood. You will find this priced anywhere from $19.99 to $13.50.

Cambria Katherine's Chardonnay 2006

90 points by Wine Enthusiast. California wine from the Santa Maria Valley. Wine Enthusiast highly recommends; "This is a big, fat, unctuous Chardonnay marked by exceptional ripeness and smoky oak." Pairs well with seafood. A geat wine at a great price ($15-$18) .

2006 Miguel Torres Celeste

A delicious red table wine from Spain. Rated 90 points by Wine & Spirits. The grapes produce a deep dark cherry flavor. An excellent wine when paired with beef or lamb. Price range $11.50-$15.00.

Chateau Pesquie Les Terrasses 2007

91 points Robert Parker The Wine Advocate. The last one on the list is an incredible bargain. It combines a 60 year- old Grenache with a 30 year-old Syrah, part aged in small barrels and in foudre and tank. The result is a wine reddish purple in color that delivers tremendous flavor and body. Combine with its low price this makes for an exceptional value. $9.98-$14.99.

Boxed Wine Finally Getting Respect

Boxed wine is no longer looked at as the cheap alternative to bottles. There are some exceptional wines now available in the box format. The spigot design, unlike cork , cuts down on oxidation (air contacting with the wine- results in a brownish color to white wine, bitter taste to all varieties). The box packaging is also much more eco-friendly than traditional bottles.

There are some excellent box wines available. One of the best features grapes from some of California's best vineyards. It's called Black Box Wines.

What I Drank This Weekend....

Beringer Founders Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2005

Considering the price ($9.99) I thought this wine was a good value. A nice berryflavor , no bitterness and no unpleasant aftertaste. At $20 you'd expect more but it was a good wine for the price.

What I Drank This Weekend

Ruffino Riserva Ducale Chianti Classico Tan Label 2004

I really like this wine, especially with hearty italian dishes like veal saltimboca or eggplant parm. I find it very fragrant, bold taste, no bitterness or after taste. I'm not an expert, I just know what I like. And this wine I like a real lot.

Around $21.00-$24.99.

I think this is nicely done - I am not a wine drinker myself, but I think it may be helpful for some that are.
