The Planet Earth DVD set is in my opinion the best "nature documentary" created, no cost was spared to make this film fascinating.

The mandate of this series was to show the planet and it's non-human inhabitants as they've never been seen before. In this respect, the producer, Alistair Fothergill, and his team of hundreds have far exceeded their goal. This did not come about without putting in a mammoth amount of work. In watching the 10 minute diary segments after each episode, one sees the drive and determination of the crew, sometimes up to three years of hiking and filming, to capture a few minutes of rare footage.

The narration by David Attenbourough adds a gentle backstory and a few exclamation points to footage that could stand alone without it. A 5.1 soundtrack, and BBC Orchestra score give a compelling reason to turn up the volume, sit back and enjoy the HD glory of this absolutely flawless presentation. This is a must see series for children and adults alike... awesome... awesome... awesome!

The Blue Planet focuses entirely on the oceans and all the life that depend on it. What we're given here is a masterpiece cinematography that will blow your senses away and amaze you.

This set is comprised of 4 discs, with each disc consisting of 2 areas or conditions in which sea life flourish. From the coasts and tides to the deep and the arctic, just about every area of the ocean known to man is beautifully captured.
The struggles and rituals of mating, hunting, feeding, and fighting are all uncovered before our eyes. There's just so much to see and learn here. What you know or what you thought you knew about the ocean and ocean life will be put to the test. For educational and entertainment purposes, this set is truly worth it's weight in gold.

The images are outstanding and you're given close ups which reveal each creature in splendid detail. If you've seen Planet Earth, then you'll have an idea of what to expect. The narration comes across clearly, the music is soulful and appropriate for every scene, and the sound of water, rain and the animals themselves work nicely to the surrounds.

As with Planet Earth, Blue Planet helps to shed the light on the glory of God's creation. We get a very rare glimpse of the way life was intended, untouched by human hands and destruction.

This documentary is based on a PowerPoint presentation by a former presidential candidate Al Gore. AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH Al Gore has plunged headfirst into a serious wake-up call for the planet with a series of lectures about the global warming problem and issues. Gore's speech is neatly divided between calm recitations of the facts about the issue and several stories of a personal nature. Gore's advice is for individuals to take steps to reduce their own inadvertent poisoning of the atmosphere, and to persuade others to do likewise. It's a powerful message, and one that is likely to remain in non-cynical minds long after the film comes to a conclusion.

This documentary really opens our eyes to the fate of our planet if we continue to stay on our current course.

March of the Penguins follows the mating rituals of the emperor penguin, one of the most resilient animals on earth.

Each summer, after a nourishing period of deep-sea feeding, the penguins pop up onto the ice and begin their procession across the frozen tundra of Antarctica. Walking in single file, they are a sight to behold. Hundreds converge from every direction, moving instinctively toward their mating ground. Once there, they mingle and chatter until they find the perfect mate a monogamous match that will last a year, through the brutal winter and into the spring.

During that time, the mother will birth an egg and then leave for the ocean to feed again. The father will stay to protect the egg through the freezing blizzards and pure darkness of winter, which would be deadly to practically any other species.

Finally, with spring, the egg hatches and the baby penguins are born. Mothers return from the sea to reunite with their families and feed the starving newborns, while the fathers are finally relieved of their protective duties after months without food.

This documentary gives us an amazing look into a world so rare and unique. Adults and children of all ages can both enjoy and learn from this great film.
