The Green Gemstone Jade
Jade is a beautiful ancient green gemstone ranging in colour from a light green that is almost white to a darkish green that is almost black, which has been used in jewelry and carvings for centuries especially in China.
I have always liked Jade but nowadays I have found that I am drawn to this gemstone and I could say at present that, I love Jade!
In the area where I live there are many Chinese and Asian women shopping at the local markets and shopping centres, I find these women fascinating with their Jade bangles and sculpture pendants so elegantly and religiously worn for luck and prosperity.
In Chinese culture to express one's love for someone you would give them something made of Jade or an object that is of the same colour.
This ancient stone, in many shades of green, has been used to celebrate cultures and religions all across the world with its many healing properties and great beauty.

A Brief History of Jade
In the Yin Ruins of the Shang Dynasty (1600 BC to1050BC) in Anyang, Dushan Jade ornaments were unearthed in the tomb of Shang Kings.
Jade has been used to create many ceremonial objects ranging from front indoor decorative items to Jade burial suits.
Jade was considered the "imperial gem" from the earliest Chinese dynasties to the present.
Jade was used in Korea and was found in small numbers in 'pit-houses'. It was also used in Buddhist rituals and burials.
In New Zealand Jade plays an important part in the Maori culture. Amongst the Maori people Jade is considered to be 'taonga' or treasure and has been protected from exploitation and is now closely monitored.
Jade is found in the south island of New Zealand.
The most famous items of Maori culture made with the gemstone Jade are the 'mere' a short club and the 'Hei-tiki' a neck pendant.
Jade was used in ornamentation in prehistoric and historic India.
The Jainest Temple of Kolanpak, Andhra Phahesh in India is home to a five foot high sculpture 'Mahavira' which is carved entirely out of Jade, one of the largest sculptures made from a single Jade rock in the world.

- My wife has me wearing chinese style red string and jade adornments, and I have one that is twinned with another from the same stone, which my daughter will wear when she is old enough. I've been amazed by the Jade exhibits in the British Museum in London - some of it being thousands of years old.
