Og Mandino stood for something, and he can help you stand tall.
Og Mandino authored nineteen books, including The Greatest Salesman In the World. Og's books have sold more than 50 million copies, and have been translated into twenty five languages, at last count. But Og Mandino was foremost a humble and truly caring individual.
I met Og before I learned what he was accomplishing. I was attending a convention of the National Speakers Association and got in line at the hotel restaurant for breakfast. I started talking with the fellow next to me and we decided to eat together. I do remember stumbling over his name, I had to say Og twice to get it right, I thought I heard it wrong.
"Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great." Mark Twain
Og didn't tell me about himself, his books, or his being an internationally famous speaker. Og Mandino kept bringing the conversation back to me. I had received an offer to co-author a book and enter public speaking full time. In one pleasant breakfast Og helped me understand the offer* and its consequences.
I don't remember, but I hope I picked up the tab. I've since discovered that long term benefits of acquiring inspiration and useful knowledge are always greater than small expenses.
I'm not alone. Through his books, articles, and speaking Og inspired millions; many of those crediting him with saving or empowering their lives.
A favorite Og Mandino quote
"Beginning today, treat everyone you meet as if they were going to be dead by midnight. Extend to them all the care, kindness and understanding you can muster, and do it with no thought of any reward. Your life will never be the same again."
Og Mandino did not have a smooth start in life.
"Take the attitude of a student, never be too big to ask questions, never know too much to learn something new." - Og Mandino
At the start of his book A Better Way to Live Og Mandino tells his personal story. He is the best source, but I can summarize. He was an alcoholic derelict ready to commit suicide; having ruined his life and negatively impacted the lives of many others - some whom he loved dearly.
What turned his life around, and gave Og Mandino a message that helped others turn their lives around, is what he has to share with you. You may need this information, and regardless, you are sure to enjoy it. Og was one of the great story tellers of the last century.
Og Mandino achieved his own success by first helping others discover the success they desire, and then helping them achieve it. His books are not just inspiring, although they are that, they are road maps to help you discover and enjoy life.
Consider these three things that will help you gain the most from reading Og Mandino's books.
"Then ask yourself what you have to lose if you follow some ideas and suggestions from Og that might, just might, enable you to discover a better way to live for you and those you love."
Our world's greatest achievements have been created by inspired individuals. You as an individual can also produce significant achievements.
History shows a race between destructive forces versus our capabilities to create solutions. You can create important answers: if you will focus on what you wish to accomplish instead of what you want to do next.
Og Mandino spent the remainder of his life teaching how to accomplish what is most important.
Og Mandino
"I will waste not even a precious second today in anger or hate or jealousy or selfishness.
I know that the seeds I sow I will harvest, because every action, good or bad, is always followed by an equal reaction.
I will plant only good seeds this day."
The Basic Mandino
If we can call wonderful basic.
These books can start sustainable growth in your life.
In essence Og Mandino is a great story teller; an adult's Aesop for our rapidly changing world. Just like Aesop, the enjoyable read is backed by deep insights with life changing intent.

When I was in my early 40's, I had a massive spiritual awakening happening in my life. Og Mandino's books were a big part of my readings during that time. He helped to change my life around - otherwise, I would be dead, by now.

* After talking with Og, I went home and talked with my young children. I told them we could have lots of money, big houses, new stylish clothes; they would have fancy cars when they turned 16. The other side of full time public speaking would be their Dad would be on the road most of their lives. Some people would think him important, and he would try to get home every week, if just for a bit. A unanimous vote, the kids wanted Dad, not things. I opened and directed a local sales training school instead. Thanks kids, you were worth it. Thanks Og, for helping me understand what is important.
