I began my quest for better skin by doing the things we already know we should do, but often don't. I started drinking 8 glasses of water everyday, regularly eating a healthy diet, and getting 8 hours of sleep on a consistent basis. When you do these things you'll need less products to repair damage. Thankfully, I don't smoke so that was one vice I didn't have to struggle with. Here's a tip--you can't 'catch up' on your rest. When your overtired and malnourished it shows, especially when you're past 30. Although your late nights may be due to bringing home work from the office instead of partying, the result is the same--your skin suffers for it.

After one month of my new routine, I noticed a definite improvement in my skin. After several months, I can say it clearly showed on my face. My skin looked better than it had in a long time, but I still wasn't satisfied. There were still traces of dark spots from past breakouts and, call me vain, but I wanted to look more youthful--that ageless look that makes people wonder if you're 25, 40, or somewhere in between.

For many years I suffered from an uneven skin tone. This was mostly due to acne breakouts. Each outbreak of pimples left behind several dark spots on my face. The final effect was a mottled uneven complexion. I tried many fade creams and skin peels with varying degrees of success. I found the fade creams were ineffective and the skin peels too aggressive. They would peel the skin off my face forming a scab and the skin underneath was raw. Of course this resulted in yet another blemish. It was a vicious cycle.

At this point I don't recommend anything but Obagi. If you have any type of skin blemish, whether it's caused by acne scarring, sun damage, or age spots, get Obagi. Yes, it's more expensive than what you will find in your local drugstore, but do you want clear skin or not? Don't screw around and buy one or two of the products. Buy the kit or you won't get the full benefit--then you'll say it didn't work.

I prefer to use products developed by dermatologists. It's no guarantee of success, but I feel it's a step in the right direction. Specifically, look for products that are non comedogenic. That's a fancy way of saying it doesn't clog pores.
