Great Paper Quilling Projects Are So Easy!
One of the benefits or downfalls, depending on how you view it, of being a professional party planner is that you get to enjoy watching people open gifts. Sometimes it's at an elegant wedding, a bridal shower or a backyard birthday barbeque. Some of the gifts are fantastic, others are a flub, but there's one that I saw a few years ago that sparked my interest in a new hobby. It was a quilled picture given to a grandmother by her granddaughter and I was amazed at how beautiful it was. It looked intricate and delicate and when I found out how easy it was to make, I decided to give it a try. I soon discovered that it doesn't take much to be able to produce a great paper quilling project.
Quillingquilling techniques actually takes little more than a few minutes. Once you have the basic curl mastered you can move on to more intricate coils. It's incredibly fun discovering all the designs you can create simply from curling paper and then placing those curls next to one another.

Making paper quilling jewelry is easier than you think.
A must for any paper quilling novice or expert are patterns. Quilling patterns allow you to create real works of art just by using this simple technique. I was amazed to discover that not only could I create pictures using the paper quilling projects patterns but I could also make other articles, including jewelry. You have no idea how spectacular a pair of quilled earrings look when worn with a pretty dress. I have never received as many compliments on my accessory choice as I do when I'm wearing one of the pairs of quilled earrings I've crafted or the quilled necklace or bracelet.These are also wonderful goodie bag treats to give out at a young girl's birthday party. I suggested this to a client and she fell in love with the idea. We spent a couple of hours one afternoon creating these tiny treasures and the young ladies at the party were thrilled. This is a much better choice than simply filling a treat bag with sweets. Give them something they can really enjoy instead.

Basic Quilling Techniques to Get You Started
Create These Shapes
Many people are like me and are shocked to learn just how easy it is to delve into the world of paper quilling. I'm not the world's craftiest gal but I don't have to be to create amazing quilling projects. Most quilling patterns call for a few different types of paper rolls so once you've mastered those, you're well on your way.The first techniques that you'll learn when you start paper quilling are coils. There are two different coils that every new quiller should get a grasp of. These are the tight and loose coils. You use virtually the same technique for both with the difference being that the tight coil is wrapped more securely than the loose. A slotted tool is ideal for this and considering that it costs so little, it's a must have.
You'll be gluing the coils once you're happy with their shape but keep in mind that you want the glue to be inconspicuous. It's great to use something to apply the glue to the paper. I find a toothpick works well, others prefer q-tips. Whatever works for you is best.
Some of the other shapes you'll quickly pick up as you learn basic quilling techniques include teardrops, raindrops, and heart shapes. All of these are simple too.
