Run to the beat - 170 to 180 bpm

Let the music set the pace!

Turnover, as measured in beats per minute, is simply the number of times that your feet strike the ground in one minute. 170 bpm means that you take 170 steps in a minute, or that each foot hits the ground 85 times in a minute.

Many experts have studied running biomechanics, and 180 bpm seems to be the consensus for what optimal turnover should be, but most runners actually have a slower turnover than that. Check out this article from Runner's World for more information. If you want a playlist targeting 180 bpm, check out my Perfect Pace Running Playlist.

The playlist below is geared for for runs in the 170 to 180 bpm range. Running to the beat of a measured playlist will keep your turnover at the optimal rate, and help you to find your best running form!
