Who Were the Twelve Olympian Gods?

Didn't anyone think to pass around an attendance sheet?

Oddly enough, while there was a Cult of the Twelve Olympian Gods, Greek writers do not always list the same twelve!

To make matters worse, Greek artists often skip name tags...

The twelve Olympian gods usually include: Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, Demeter, Aphrodite, Ares, Hermes, Hephaistos, Athena, Apollo, Artemis.

Dionysos and/or Hestia are often among the twelve. While it is now popular to say that Hestia gave up her seat to Dionysos, no ancient writer mentions this.

Hades is usually not on the list. It would be strange for the God of the Dead to be hanging out in the home of the immortals.
