In March and April, I was building new lenses and improving existing ones by: updating content, tweaking CSS, building web traffic, improving search engine optimization, and upgrading graphics and layout. (Links are my tutorials on how I do all these things.)

As a result, my earnings doubled from $50 in February to $104 in March, and ...

And then I got eaten by my dissertation, and my lenses fell down, down, down like the inky dinky spider. Despite that, earnings rebounded BEFORE I came back to work on them -- apparently Squidoo is a leading indicator of the U.S. economy's health, to judge by fluctuations.

Anyway. June earnings were still good, due to my spring push, and then we see a dip (also, as I wasn't around, I didn't capture traffic stats):

But look -- all that fussing in March paid off -- my payout DOUBLED to $104!

Payday came a little early this month. I'm still not seeing vast improvements from my February-March efforts to get my lenses dusted off and set back in order, but there's a little improvement.

So here's a screencap of my earnings for 2008, straight from my Paypal account. Remember, Squidoo earnings are paid after two months to account for any returns from purchases on Amazon and other merchant modules.



Not bad, considering I got tied up with homebuying in March, and from June through December didn't stop by Squidoo at all! (Dissertation = first priority, and I may soon vanish from Squidoo again.)

I don't recommend absentee lensmasterism -- you get SO much more out of Squidoo if you keep your lenses updated, respond to comments, and check in with the community from time to time -- but it shows how a solid portfolio of lenses, even by someone who doesn't do affiliate marketing or much monetizing at all, can continue to deliver residuals.

In late January into February I began updating and adding new lenses. The lensranks and visitors count should therefore jump. Feb's payout (which arrives in April) should register a significant jump.
