Green Driving Tips

Tips to save valuable gas and increase your mileage!

  • Slow it down! One of the biggest gas wasters of all is aggressive driving. Constant stop and go, speeding, heavy braking, and rapidly accelerating can all contribute to lowering your mileage by about 1/3!

  • Carpool. Most large cities have a carpool system where you can park your car in outside towns for the day and carpool in. You'll be saving loads of gas, money, and preventing emissions.

  • Use the AC sparingly. Air conditioners put extra stress on the engine and decrease your mileage.

  • Streamline your car. Take things off the roof like roof racks, these add wind resistance.

Stop warming up your car!

Idling your car does nothing for you, or for the life of your car. In most cold weather, all it takes to let your car engine "warm up" is 30 seconds. Beyond that, and you're just causing pollution and running down your gas tank!

Savings and rebates from hybrids can really add up.

Car Maintenance Tips for Better Gas Mileage

Simple steps to get more gas for your buck

  • Replace clogged air filters. Not only do air filters protect your engine from hazardous debris and engine waste, it can improve your gas mileage dramatically -- nearly 10%.

  • Properly inflated tires can improve your gas mileage, too, about 3% on the average.

  • Buy a hybrid car. More fuel efficient cars can save you money on gas and help save the environment.
