The Muppets Movie (2011) Review

The new Muppets movie is amazing. It is perfect. Disney did a superlative job of reawakening this sleeping franchise and pleasing everyone while doing so.

The new Muppets movie is nostalgic and you will find lots to relate to if you, as some of us did, grew up with The Muppets. However, if you did not, you will still find the story totally enjoyable.

I loved it. I loved the fact that the audience laughed out loud at DIFFERENT things. What I thought was funny, you might not appreciate quite as much but the next minute you would be laughing out loud and I might not be. And as a bonus, I loved the music a mix of some old and some new. It would have been odd if I sang along (because I would have been the only one doing so) but the movie was positively infectious and I could easily have done so.

The storyline is that of a puppet named Walter and his friends, a couple named Mary and Gary (played by Amy Adams and Jason Segal) who are on vacation in Los Angeles, California, and who find out that evil oilman Tex Richman (played by Chris Cooper) is planning to tear down The Muppet Theatre in order to drill for oil. Coincidentally, it turns out that Walter is a huge Muppet fan and so he decides to present The Greatest Muppet Telethon Ever in an effort to raise the funds required to save the theatre.

Walter, Mary and Gary assist Kermit in reuniting with the Muppets who have, naturally after Disney let the franchise sleep for ten years, gone their separate ways.

The new Muppets movie was released in theatres in North America on November 23, 2011. The next date that we will be watching for is the release of The Muppets on DVD and blu-ray disc.

I don't know if the world was ready for the return of The Muppets. Were YOU ready? I certainly was!
