Trucks and Tractors: Loved From One Generation to the Next

When I was a little girl there were two things we could always count on. First, one, if not all, of my brothers would receive a tractor or truck from Santa. Second, they were not about to let a girl play with their trucks.

I love my brothers, but as a kid I resented the fact that they could play rough, get dirty, farm the land, and build roads while my sisters and I took care of babies and held tea parties. While the tea parties were fun, it couldn't hold a candle to digging in the dirt.

My brothers loved their trucks and tractors, and when they grew up and started buying toys for their children, trucks and tractors topped the list. Today they are buying the same trucks and tractors they played with as kids for their grandchildren.

Times have changed! Today, women drive trucks and tractors too.

The Next Generation

When my sons were small, their eyes grew big as saucers when they pulled the wrapping away to reveal a shiny new truck. There were many toys that they played with for awhile and then abandoned, but the trucks and tractors stayed with them the longest. Both have many fond memories of building roads and cities, clearing the land for new crops, and baling hay for the horses. (They never had cows. I think they heard too many stories of getting up before dawn to do the milking. My sons are night owls, not early birds.)

I still have the tractors and trucks they played with stashed away in the attic. When the time comes they will fuel the imagination of the next generation.

Summer Fun

Trucks and tractors are awesome Christmas gifts, but the same goes for birthdays and other holidays throughout the year. Just think of all the sand that needs to be hauled from one sandcastle to another. Buckets and shovels are great but nothing gets the job done like a monster truck.

It's time to start gardening again. How can they plant their seeds without first working the ground? A little farmer needs a tractor. How else can he plow the ground? Turn their imagination loose for a little fun in the sun.

Have a good day,

Lizzy

Do you know a little boy or girl who would love to own a truck of their own?

These are what boys always wanted back then, and not a lot has changed over the years.

We had a bulldozer and a dump truck when I was a kid (girl) and I loved playing with them (esp. in the sand box) The tractors look like a must have as well.

These look like excellent toys for boys or girls. Maybe I should buy one for my 8 day old son (and I could play with it until he's big enough)

My 6yr old wants to be a farmer when he grows up. Tractors are number 1 on his Christmas list. Great lens! You've given me some great ideas.

Why couldn't girls play in the dirt? Just not fair. Love your lens. Trucks and tractors will always be popular I think.

Even farmers have to go into town once in awhile. You need a car for that.
