Eco-Friendly, Organic, Green-Living Products for your Health

Everything we come in contact with daily, either affects our health directly, or the health of mother earth. We do have the power to make the world go green by the everyday purchases we choose to make, it's up to us!

I had to learn it the hard way, of course I didn't think I was doing anything bad to myself. I was careful I thought, I ate well, I thought, I exercised enough, I thought I was doing everything right!! I cared about what I put into and on my body. Don't you?!

But when I worked over 10 years in the beauty industry, all the good health practices I was doing outside of my career, it still wasn't enough to neutralize chemicals exposed to daily. I had to do even more to repair the damage chemicals had done to my body. But eventually I had to leave my career, that had provided a good income for me. Because I couldn't get completely well if I hadn't.

We all are unknowingly exposed to hundreds of chemicals throughout our lives. In our food, air, water, clothes, homes, beauty products, cars, everywhere!!! You don't have to work in a beauty salon to be exposed daily to harmful chemicals. We have to understand that there will be long-term negative health consequences, when we continue to not use "green" products.

It's been a battle to get the right information to help myself, I wasn't officially diagnosed with chronic fatigue, but all the symptoms point to this bummer of a syndrome. I was tired, really getting tired, so tired, that I could hardly work anymore. I was scared, because I had no health insurance, no safety nets. I had to do something to help myself quickly, so I started reading, reading a lot!!

What else could I do, no one at my doctors office even believed anything was wrong with me. But I knew there was, I was in trouble. Self-employed, no disability either. I had to work fast on my own healing. Don't wait until your sick to make changes in your health should be about prevention.

I listed many great resources on here, especially the books, the one's that I personally used are listed under my FAVORITES.....Some may be contraversal, but I didn't care, and still don't. I found answers, and help, and I want to share these resources with you. If you continue to do what you did yesterday, nothing will change!

So, enjoy watching the videos, read great green articles, investigate different links, and peruse a great selection of books. Open up your mind to living more "GREEN" for the sake of yours and your family's health. When we live green, eat green, buy green, the earth will heal along with us. Isn't that what "going green" is all about?

NEW Environmental Book

Ecological Intelligence

Watched Bill Moyer's interview with Daniel Goleman about his new book, on his weekly PBS program. I thought it was such and interesting conversation about his thoughts of the "going green" movement. That we need to understand the whole big picture of "green" products, the real behind the scenes impact these products have on our environment.

Ecological Intelligence: How Knowing the Hidden Impacts of What We Buy Can Change Everything

Amazon Price: $17.16 (as of 12/06/2009)Buy Now
List Price: $26.00

*Starred Review* Goleman, best-selling author of such groundbreaking works as Emotional Intelligence (1995) and Primal Leadership (2002), brings his invaluable behavioral insights to our most urgent dilemma: how to halt environmental catastrophe. What's required, Goleman believes, is ecological intelligence, which he defines as understanding the "hidden web of connections between human activity and nature" systems, and the subtle complexities of their intersections." More concretely, Goleman encourages readers to learn about the many invisible threats to our health and the health of the environment caused by product manufacturing. Wisely focusing on the one element we can control, what we purchase, Goleman calls for higher "green" standards and "radical transparency" regarding how products are made. An enlightening foray into industrial ecology reveals how new forms of analysis determine precisely how the manufacture of such disparate items as toys, shampoo, and paper contributes to natural resource depletion, chemical pollution, and global warming. Brimming with intriguing, useful, and galvanizing information, this is an exceptionally sharp, innovative, and realistic approach to raising the demand for environmentally safe merchandise. Given Goleman's track record and the pressing need for smart strategies, this fascinating treatise has tremendous potential for reaching and motivating a large and diverse audience. --Donna Seaman

Ethical Consumers-LOHAS

NaturalNews) You've heard the phrase, "Vote with your wallet." Well the votes are in. Ethical consumers are putting their money where their values are. This quiet revolution based on information and idealism is changing the marketplace. Chances are good that you are one of those consumers. Do you prefer to dine on organic foods? Do you choose sweatshop-free clothing? Do you search out sustainable building supplies? Those choices are probably based on your awareness of today's health, environmental and justice issues. You care enough to make purchases consistent with your values.

Not long ago you may have had difficulty finding products and services that met your high standards, especially in some areas of the country. But your fellow consumers are also beginning to care and the marketplace has shifted to accommodate this growing consumer base. Really shifted. In 2002, industries serving conscientious buyers got their own nickname-- LOHAS, which stands for Lifestyle of Health and Sustainability, based on research by Conscious Media and Natural Marketing Institute. According to analysis posted at lohas.com this is a 209 billion dollar market that is growing each year.

That market includes natural foods, integrative health care, alternative energy, eco-tourism, social change philanthropy and more. The motivations of those who support these emerging marketplaces are of interest to businesses, and are described at lohas.com "The interconnections between global economies, cultures, environments, and political systems play a large role in the holistic worldview of the typical LOHAS Consumer, but equally important are the interconnections of mind, body and spirit within individuals. This focus on Personal Development, with the ultimate goal of achieving his or her full human potential, is of utmost concern to the LOHAS consumer."

Concern about the environment has played a part in developing this consumer motivation. For over 20 years, Harris Polls have found a majority of respondents agree that protecting the ecosystem is so important that standards cannot be too high. Recently, ninety percent of those polled say they worry about the environment. A heightened focus on planetary issues leads many individuals to closer inner scrutiny. What values do I exemplify? How can I make a difference? Often the answers direct them toward a more sustainable lifestyle.

Other factors have a similar impact. On-going movements including anti-globalization, animal rights and many different human rights campaigns substantially raise public awareness. Those who support the goals of such movements often seek out information to help them make spending decisions aligned with their ethical stance.

This growing awareness has sparked a powerful consumer market. Approximately 25 percent of adult Americans are considered to be part of this group. Their purchasing decisions are orienting businesses toward more positive social, environmental and humane practices.

When interviewed about the core values underlying their shopping choices, consumers often respond by remarking on the personal responsibility underlying their actions. One business owner said that unthinkingly buying mass produced items is a way of agreeing with oppression across the world. A college student commented that she wants to be a force for good in the world, and is willing to make sacrifices of time or money to do so. A retired teacher noted that as she has become more conscious of her health and spiritual life she has discovered that she also desires to live in greater harmony with creation itself.

The idea that personal consumer choices have a wider impact is easily verified.

*According to the EPA, if every home in America replaced just one standard light bulb with an Energy Star compact florescent light bulb, this alone would save enough energy to light three million homes for a year ($600 million annual energy costs) and prevent greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to removing 800,000 cars from the road.

*International products certified as Fair Trade (guaranteeing a non-exploitative relationship between buyer and seller) support the rights of workers in small-scale enterprises. Transfair USA reports that villages benefiting from such income are opening craft cooperatives and health centers. In one area alone, 1,600 acres where poppies and coca once grew for illicit drug trade are now devoted to growing organic coffee.

*Research published by the National Resources Defense Council indicates that 423,900 trees could be saved if every household in the U.S. replaced just one 500-sheet roll of toilet paper with one made of all recycled fibers.

*Purchasing local, in-season produce conserves petroleum. The Organic Consumers Association reports that processed foods travel an average of 3,600 miles in the journey from farm to table. A meal made of locally produced ingredients uses four to 17 times less petroleum than one from typical supermarket products due to transportation requirements.

Sometimes these conscious choices lead to avoidance. Some people boycott certain goods or stores. Others shun spending in specific categories such as owning stock in companies that violate their principles. These consumers prefer to go without rather than spend money in ways that violate their ethics. This takes money away from corporations profiting from factory farming, unfair labor conditions or environmental degradation. Even if the financial impact isn't apparent to the largest companies, at least right away, these decisions allow individuals to direct their own money with a clear conscience. This avoidance isn't seen as painful. It's more an affirmation of personal beliefs.

Avoidance is a small part of the larger picture. Positive choices form the basis of ethical consumerism. People seek out products and services that meet higher standards. Sometimes they rely on their own judgment but oftentimes they research to help them make informed purchases (see resource guide below).

Priorities for ethical consumers tend to interconnect, falling into five broad categories: sustainable economy, personal development, alternative healthcare, environmental concerns and social justice. These issues are the heart of the growing LOHAS market. Seeking authenticity between strongly held values and lifestyle choice is part of a larger cultural trend, according to sociologist Paul H. Ray. He authored the book The Cultural Creatives: How 50 Million People Are Changing the World, with co-author psychologist Sherry Ruth Anderson. Ray identifies characteristics he attributes to a quarter of the U.S. population which appear among all age, income and ethnic groups regardless of political affiliation. According to his research the people he describes as Cultural Creatives are focused on cultivating an inclusive social conscience and redefining success beyond material standards. Ray says as they are changing their minds they are changing the world around them, even if they are slow to recognize how many others share their values.

These individuals may not be aware of their political or social power, but as a group they have influenced the way products are manufactured and promoted. Not long ago customers purchased products based on catchy advertising jingles like "Silly rabbit, Trix® are for kids!" But savvy consumers want more. When they consider purchasing cereal for their children they want to know not only the healthfulness of the cereal's ingredients, but where each ingredient was sourced. They may also want to understand the company's investment, labor and lobbying practices.

Corporations are quickly catching on. Most trumpet their progressive policies on everything from charitable donations to environmental stewardship, although some companies are simply greenwashing harmful policies. The corporate rush to gain favor with consumers by claiming increased social responsibility has caused confusion and backlash. A 2006 study of shoppers in Germany, Britain, France, Spain and the U.S. indicated that nearly half of them held corporate ethics in low regard. There are useful sites to rate larger companies on a range of policies (see resource guide below) helping shoppers make informed decisions despite the hype. Some ethical consumers prefer small businesses, particularly local and conscientious companies. These choices have a beneficial effect on area economy as well.

Ethical shoppers don't necessarily spend more for products and services that mesh with their values. Often they readjust their attitudes, reformulating what it means to be a consumer. Many have already eliminated unnecessary purchases. They continue to examine the difference between wants and needs in an effort to live less materialistic lifestyles. The rewards include a home with well made, lasting products rather than one cluttered with too many possessions of inferior quality.

Sometimes shoppers do choose to spend more. The five country study cited above showed that a third of respondents agreed that they'd be willing to spend more for products reflecting their values. The wider ramifications are a greater motivator than the expense. Purchasing a chair made by a local craftsman of sustainable wood may cost more but the tradeoff is understood. No rainforest trees were harvested to make that chair, no toxins were released to glue or paint it, no child worker labored to manufacture it.

There is no average ethical consumer, any more than Cultural Creatives fit a demographic. Finding ways to make one's lifestyle part of the solution is a gradual process. One person may hear about socially responsible investing at college, another may take a Tai Chi class to ease arthritis rather than using a prescription. It's a matter of seeking authenticity between values and actions---as the adage says, learning to "walk your talk." The choices are different for each person. There's no need to scrutinize one another

The Beauty of Nature

CLASSIC Environmental Book

"Silent Spring"

Silent Spring, released in 1962, offered the first shattering look at widespread ecological degradation and touched off an environmental awareness that still exists. Rachel Carson's book focused on the poisons from insecticides, weed killers, and other common products as well as the use of sprays in agriculture, a practice that led to dangerous chemicals to the food source. Carson argued that those chemicals were more dangerous than radiation and that for the first time in history, humans were exposed to chemicals that stayed in their systems from birth to death. Presented with thorough documentation, the book opened more than a few eyes about the dangers of the modern world and stands today as a landmark work.

In 1960, a woman noticed the birds had stopped singing and their population had severely decreased in her neighborhood. She summoned a friend, biologist/writer Rachel Carson, to investigate this wildlife mystery. Subsequently, in 1962, Rachel's discoveries and efforts were brought to the forefront in her book, Silent Spring, which revealed the atrocities of pesticide poisoning. The over-spraying of DDT, dieldrin and other pest killers was poisoning the entire world of living things, humanity included. Rachel's work not only left chemical companies casting about trying to discredit her findings, but, most importantly, prompted an enormous environmental movement which continues today.

What Comes from Our Earth

Reducing Your Cancer Risk

This is such a good article I had to share it!

(NaturalNews)Cancer will be the number one killer in the world by the year 2010, overtaking the spot now held by heart disease, according to a recent report from Associated Press. International health experts foresee a doubling in the global rate of cancer deaths by 2030. Cancer diagnoses have been steadily rising around the globe and are expected to hit 12 million this year, with deaths from cancer logging in at 7 million. By 2030 this appalling toll will hit 27 million diagnoses and 17 million deaths. What can you do to make sure you are not among the gruesome statistics? Assuming you do not smoke or drink excessively, here is a list of the top 10 steps for avoiding cancer Anyone who has had cancer can use these steps to prevent a recurrence.

Make high quality food a priority

The quality of the food supply is very poor, being grown in depleted soil, transported long distances, stored, processed, and packaged. There is very little nutrition left in such food. Yet high quality nutrients are required by the body to keep it free of cancer. Food is a lot more than just calories. It is the bedrock of the body's defense, so only the highest quality, most nutrient packed food should be eaten. High quality food is not about what tastes the best, but what will make you feel the best.

It is up to us to be as proactive as we can when dealing with what life has offered if we hope to retain our health. Eating locally and organically grown and produced food is the best way to get maximum nutrition. Since everyone does not have access to this kind of food, the next best thing is to make a commitment to eat whole foods that retain their integrity and have not been processed. Whole foods are things like apples, celery, potatoes and chicken legs, items that have not been altered from their natural state.

Food prepared at home is best because restaurant food is low on nutrition and high on toxic chemicals. But stay away from packaged foods and other products of food technology. They are processed, low on nutrients, and usually chocked full of chemcicals. They have been created to benefit the food company that manufactures them, not the person who has to eat them. A plant based diet that places primary emphasis on vegetables and fruits eaten raw offers the highest level of cancer preventing compounds. A diet that places primary emphasis on processed carbohydrates like pancakes, bread, cake and snack foods offers the lowest level of cancer protection.

If avoiding cancer is the goal, eat the highest quality food that can be found and afforded. When times are though, think of an investment in high quality food as something that can never be taken from you, and will never lose its value. High quality food will enhance your looks and appeal to a much greater extent than a new outfit, hairdo or manicure. There is nothing that creates a radiant appearance like the glow of good health.

A diet that frequently includes known cancer fighting food is of tremendous value in the quest to remain cancer free. The Budwig protocol is the only well documented food cure for cancer. It consists of flax oil mixed with cottage cheese. Other known potent cancer fighters are berries, apples eaten with their seeds, almonds, Brazil nuts, broccoli and other cruciferous vegetables, green leafy vegetables, beans and other legumes, garlic, tea, grapes, red wine, avocados, and tomatoes. Most culinary herbs have cancer fighting properties so use them whenever possible. Turmeric, ginger, rosemary, cumin, and cayenne are among the richest in cancer fighting compounds.

Stay as chemically free as possible

When the body is chemicalized, the immune system is so busy dealing with the toxic chemical onslaught that it cannot do the jobs it was meant to do. One job of the immune system is to make sure the cancerous cells produced by the body every day are identified and eliminated before they can turn into a full blown cancer. The immune system perceives toxic chemicals as just what they are, foreign invaders that do not exist in nature. It responds by trying to oust these invaders from the body. While it is busy doing that, a few cancerous cells can slip by unnoticed and a cancer can begin.

We are living in a time of chemical assault like never before. Our food is full of chemicals, the air we breathe is polluted, and the water supply contains industrial waste and pharmaceutical residues. Our personal care and household products are a toxic chemical soup. Add to that the threat from electro magnetic fields (EMFS) such as produced by power lines, computers, cell phones and even electric alarm clocks, and the total environmental threat we deal with on a daily basis is mind boggling.

Anyone who has been on the standard American diet, taking prescription drugs, and using personal care and household products from traditional retail outlets has a huge store of toxins in the body that need to be eliminated before they can contribute to the development of cancer. This can be accomplished by practicing yoga and using the breathing techniques prescribed by yoga masters, or by deep tissue massage. For the first few times, each should be followed by a general purpose antioxidant supplement like R-Lipoic Acid, and the drinking of plenty of pure water. Both will flush out toxins. Cilantro juice is another way to flush out many toxins including heavy metals. Follow the juice with chlorella(blue-green algae) or IP6 to escort them from the body. There are many other detox formulas on the market.

It is relatively easy to find personal care, cosmetic, and household products that are free of toxic chemicals. Non-toxic products can be easily ordered on line and shipped to your home. Install a water purification system, preferably one that uses reverse osmosis to get the toxins out of your drinking water and the water in which you bathe. These are also available online. Let fresh air into your home or workplace whenever possible. Use houseplants to keep the air in your environment free of pollutants. One medium sized houseplant for every 100 square foot of space should do the trick. Larger plants provide even more natural air cleaning.

Do the best you can to rid your environment of EMF's For starters, never sit with a laptop computer on your lap. Get rid of those old style televisions and computer monitors that emit huge amounts of radiation. Throw out your microwave. If you aren't buying packaged processed foods, you won't need it. For a quick heating device, get an inexpensive toaster oven. Move the alarm clock from next to the bed to across the room. Do not use a cellphone unless you have to, and then use it only with a headset or in the speakerphone mode. Never carry electronic gadgetry mounted on your body.

Learn to read labels. If you do not recognize the ingredients as compounds that occur in nature, do not buy the product.

Keeping yourself and your family as free of toxins as possible requires a new way of thinking and approaching life. One of the first priorities for making a purchase should be how much the product will add to the quest for a long and healthy life. When thoughts go in this direction you will begin to see how people are being manipulated and used by many of the large corporations. Producers that make products containing toxic chemicals are showing no regard for their customer's health or the well being of their families. They will use people however then can to enrich their bottom lines. As people become aware of this, their criteria for a purchase evolves to the point where they naturally purchase only products that will enhance their health.

Run away from prescription and over-the-counter drugs

Socrates said, "Let food be thy medicine and let medicine be thy food". If he were alive today he would probably be appalled by a society that is tightly in the grip of pharmaceutical companies. These companies sell patented toxic chemicals that do little or nothing to keep people well and healthy on any sustained basis. Their products mask symptoms that should be given attention. Symptoms are a wake up call that something is wrong. They need to be traced back to their cause, so the cause can be addressed and corrected, not covered up and ignored.

Whether it is a prescribed medication or an over-the-counter drug, the affect on the body is the same as with the toxic chemicals in food and other products. Drugs are lab created and do not exist in nature. If you put a drug into your body, your immune system has to deal with it as though it too is a foreign invader. Drugs raise the level of toxicity in the body and must be detoxified by a liver already stressed from trying to deal with the high level of environmental toxins.

No one gets better taking pharmaceuticals, and there is no healing. The side effects that are produced by one drug frequently lead to more prescriptions for more drugs in what becomes a vicious cycle. If people take enough drugs their bodies become chemical waste dumps where cancer can easily flourish. The reliance on drugs has diverted attention from the real issue, which is how to care for ourselves and keep ourselves healthy. Once people become truly health conscious, they resent the drug companies because they know that these companies do not have people's best interest at heart with the products they sell. They are just like the companies that make chemicalized foods, trying to get people's money without given anything of value in return. People who have wised up to the harmful effects of patent medicines see the constant barrage of commercials for drugs as blatant manipulation and brainwashing.

There are natural alternatives to drugs that do not just mask symptoms but actually produce healing. There is an abundance of natural compounds that can keep people in good health. These substances leave the immune systems and liver strong and able to provide protection from cancer.

Keep your gut healthy and happy

People have trouble with their stomachs and digestive tracts and write it off as an inevitable result of stress or aging. Yet many natural healers say death begins in the gut, a statement that underscores how vital the health of the gut is for overall well being. When the gut is not healthy, food cannot be properly processed and assimilated into the body, leaving people unable to have access to the wealth of nutrients that high quality food provides. Since it is these nutrients that provide protection from cancer, it becomes imperative that gut health be a priority in any anti-cancer effort.

The deterioration of the digestion occurs over a period of years and can be signaled by sounds of a thunderstorm coming from the gut. Other symptoms include headaches, increased susceptibility to infection, gas, bloating, constipation, indigestion, and falling energy levels. Failure to address declining gut function creates an opportunity for cancer and other degenerative diseases such as irritable bowel syndrome, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, multiple sclerosis, chronic fatigue, lupus, arthritis, and psoriasis. Many chronic diseases start with gut deterioration.

The four pounds of bacteria that live in the gut are the backbone of the immune system. They are our unpaid personal bodyguards, willing to go to war against aberrant cells, bacteria, viruses, pathogens and foreign invaders to defend us. They also help out with digestion and make sure nutrients are absorbed so they can be used by the body to keep it healthy.

One of the worst things that can happen to ruin the happy relationship between people and their bacteria is antibiotics. They kill off the bodyguards along with the enemies, leaving no defense against unfriendly bacteria that would like to inhabit the intestinal tract. After a round of antibiotics, it is essential to take probiotics to reestablish friendly bacteria in the gut. Kefir, a culture that can be started in any kind of milk including coconut milk, offers powerful protection to the gut and as a result, to the entire body. Kefir culture is available online.

Even if no antibiotics have been taken, the herd of friendly bacteria in the gut can become depleted to the point where it can no longer do what it is meant to do. Pesticides in food are lethal to intestinal bacteria. Even if the skins of fruits and vegetables are well washed, pesticides remain because they work systemically and will be contained in the body of the produce. Chlorine is meant to kill bacteria in water and will kill off the bacteria in the gut as well. Eventually the gut becomes so depleted that it will be as though antibiotics have been taken even if they have not. When this happens, unfriendly microorganisms are free to set up shop in the digestive track.

Probiotics are friendly bacteria similar to the bacteria found in the guts of breastfed infants who have been provided this natural protection against many diseases by their mothers. Almost every supplement company sells probiotics in capsule form. Although they don't work as well as kefir at restoring depleted levels of bacteria, they are good for maintenance of a healthy digestive system. Yogurt will also help preserve the health of the digestive tract once it has been established, but it won't do much to help repopulate a digestive tract after antibiotic use or years of general neglect.

Restore declining hormones to optimal levels

For women and for men, achieving and maintaining hormonal balance is probably the single greatest intervention that can be taken to preserve health. Hormonal decline can start as early as the late 20's for women and the mid 30's for men. It is an opening door that leads to aging and degenerative diseases like cancer. While women and men have their hormones in abundance and in balance, they are vital, vibrant and reproductive. Nature has a use for them and wants to keep them around. When hormones decline and are not replaced, a powerful message is sent to nature saying these people are no longer necessary in the great scheme of life.

Hormones control mental and physical well being. Energy level, metabolism, brain functioning, skeletal integrity, mood, motivation, and zest for life are orchestrated by the hormones. All the hormones work together to keep us healthy and functioning at our best. If one hormone is not up to par, repercussions will manifest through all the body systems. If people do not feel well and at their best a large part of the time, chances are pretty good that at least one hormone is not at the level it should be. If they have trouble sleeping, feel depressed, gain weight without increasing food intake, have low energy during some part of the day, or have lost interest in sex or cannot perform, their hormone levels are probably declining and out of balance. For anyone who already has cancer or any other dengerative disease, hormonal imbalance is almost a sure thing. Until hormones are replenished and balanced, real sustainable recovery will be impossible.

The only way to achieve hormone balance is with bio-identical hormone replacement that restores hormone levels to where they were at the prime of life. Teenagers and people in their early 20's usually feel good and energetic most of the time. They do not have cancer. This is because they have a full complement of balanced hormones.

Achieving this level of hormonal balance and the vibrant health, joy of living and freedom from worrying about cancer and other diseases that goes with it, requires the help of a physician trained in anti-aging medicine or hormone balancing. Many traditional doctors have never heard of bio-identical hormones or if they have, they will advise their patients not to use them because they are not drugs. Since many bio-identical hormones are made at compounding pharmacies, this is a good place to start the search for hormone balance. Ask who they recommend.

Benefits of Organic Gardening

(NaturalNews) Many scientific studies have begun to conclude that organic gardening is beneficial for every level of life: soil, plants and animals, insects, water and air quality, as well as our own mental and physical health. Certain conventional farming practices have led to increases of pollutants in our air, water, soil, and our own bodies. More and more, people around the country are beginning to grow their own organic food or to buy locally grown organic food. Growing food at home and supporting local farms can be easy ways to help support a healthy earth and also to take better care of our own bodies.

What is organic gardening?

Organic gardening refers to growing fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, or grains using only natural means. In other words, no pesticides, fungicides, herbicides, insecticides, or other poisonous chemicals or fertilizers are used in the process of growing food. Instead, the soil is tilled and prepared using gathered mulch, composted manure or food and leaf remains. Also, the plants are sprouted and grown with the aid of sun, water, minerals from compost, companion planting, and your own loving touch. Organically-raised produce is harvested and eaten with the confidence that it is grown naturally and poison-free.

Organic gardeners grow plants according to a holistic and sustainable perspective. Conventional methods, on the other hand, tend to emphasize maximum profit and growth. Consequently, these methods reduce human, soil, and plant/animal health to lower priorities.

Organic farmers consider the health and mineral content of the soil. They use techniques such as crop rotation, avoidance of poisons or pollutants, and renewal of soil nutrient content through addition of composted organic matter (leaves, papers, coffee grounds, food remains, manure, and so on). Also, an organic approach considers the welfare of animals, worms, companion plants, and humans in its decision-making.

How does modern agriculture affect life?

Many studies have concluded that conventional farming practices (e.g., heavy use of pesticides and herbicides, over-farming and erosion of mineral quality of soil, mass deforestation, and so on) have led to a vast decline in the health of soil, air, water, plants, as well as birds and animals. These practices even affect our own health and well-being. "The intensification and expansion of modern agriculture is amongst the greatest current threats to worldwide biodiversity".

Recent studies have found that massive declines in populations of bees, birds, and other wildlife have been directly linked to peoples` use of poisons on their lawns and farms. We are wiping out animals` habitats (shrubs, trees, tall grasses, ponds, etc) and replacing them with chemically-maintained "lawns."

Research studies have also concluded that ingestion of pesticides and herbicides from conventional produce can dramatically decrease nutritional contents of foods and can increase rates of cancers and other disorders.

How does this affect me?

A March 2001 study released by the Center for Disease Control revealed that accumulations of toxic chemicals in our bodies likely have deleterious health effects. The greatest challenge to this is that because cancers or diseases arise over the course of years or decades, we do not even consider them as potential causes. Because cancers and diseases are so widespread in older populations, we tend to view them as "to be expected" or "typical" of older age. In reality, however, diseases could be the body`s response to living in and ingesting toxic chemicals for many years of our lives without questioning the safety or danger of these choices.

Also, as bees and birds die by the millions (from the use of plastic bags, herbicides, pesticides etc), we will have far less wildlife to enjoy and to coexist with. Try to imagine a world devoid of birds, bees, honey, and so on. The repercussions of wildlife extinctions also affect all of our world`s ecosystem balances, and the effects of these extinctions can be more far-reaching and deleterious than we can imagine (not to mention the sheer loss of life).

What are the benefits of organic gardening?

The benefits span many aspects of our lives: social, physical, and mental health.

Socially, growing gardens brings people together, connects people with nature, encourages healthy social interaction, and gives people a shared sense of purpose and fulfillment. Making dinner for friends from food that you grow and harvest yourself is a very rewarding, enjoyable experience.

Physically, growing gardens gives you opportunity for being outdoors, surrounded by living things. People benefit from fresh air and water, beautiful surroundings, open space, and so on. In addition, the physical work of tilling soil and growing plants increases our blood flow, uses our muscles, and improves our health. Because it is organic, there is lessened risk of contamination from toxic chemicals.

Mentally, organic gardening offers a deep satisfaction in knowing that one is helping to turn the tides back in favor of a healthy earth, healthy plants and animals, and healthy people. Also, working outdoors with hands in soil - touching earth - brings calm, joy, and peace of mind.

What can I do?

Do you enjoy plants? You can grow a few pots of tomatoes or peppers in your living room. Peppers, for example, grow very well indoors. You can grow peace lilies, palms, or pothos plants, which will clean the air in your house.

If you enjoy gardening, grow some or all of your own food naturally right in your yard. The experience of harvesting your own fruits and vegetables and feeding friends and family can be one of the most deeply rewarding experiences of life. Choose to grow food rather than grass.

If you would rather not grow plants, then buy your food from local organic farmers or local CSA`s (community supported farms). Make a non-negotiable decision to only eat organic food and use organic products.

Supporting an organic lifestyle can be as simple as eating organic herbs and foods, or planting a few pots of tomato or pepper plants. It can also be as vast as converting your entire yard and home into a space for wildlife conservation and propagation.

You can make simple sustainable choices in day-to-day life: canvas rather than plastic bags, glass rather than plastic, bulk rather than packaged, home-filtered water rather than purchased bottles, raw and natural rather than processed, organic rather than conventional, and so on. Your choices make a difference in the world.

What is BLUE-GREEN ALGAE(AFA)

MORE DETAILS......

Klamath Blue Green Algae is a wild, fresh water algae growing
in natural abundance in Upper Klamath Lake. The precipitation that falls on the Southern Oregon Cascade Mountains washes tons of mineral-rich volcanic soil into the alkaline lake annually.

Algae has been eaten in various forms for thousands of years. It is packed with beta-carotene and B-Complex biologically active vitamins, enzymes, chlorophyll, fatty acids, neuropeptide precursors (peptides are joined amino acids), lipids, carbohydrates, minerals, trace minerals, pigments and other essential growth factors.

It contains all eight essential amino acids and both semi-essential amino acids. It is a concentrated source of arginine, known to build and tone muscle tissue. Most importantly, the essential amino acid profile of AFA is virtually identical to that required by the human body. No vital amino acids are wasted.

"The greatest value of A.F.A. is not only its nutrient concentration, but its effect on the nervous system, specifically the pituitary, pineal, and hypothalamus. People taking A.F.A. have reported an overall increase in mental alertness, mental stamina, short and long term memory, problem solving, creativity, dream recall, a greater sense of well being and centeredness." Dr Gabriel Cousens, M.D., author in Body, Mind, Spirit, April 1995.

Two grams of AFA provide an equal amount of beta carotene to 80 grams of carrots, 1200 grams of iceberg lettuce, four tomatoes, or four cooked eggs. Critical Review in Food and Science and Nutrition, 1991.

AFA contains about 3% nucleic acids, the richest of any commercially available food. Nucleic acids are responsible for growth and repair, unscheduled regeneration; and can prevent, stop, and reverse many aspects of aging; enhance immunity, neutralize radiation poisoning, stimulate the return of memory, reverse organic brain disorders and genetic damage; and act as stress modulators.(Blue Green Algae and the Factors of Regeneration, Apsley, 1995).

AFA has 12 vitamins, 27 naturally occurring or essential minerals, and 11 pigments some of which are precursors to other vitamins, enzymes and co-enzymes. Along with beta-carotene, AFA also contains bioflavinoids, RNA, superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione, selenium, and cysteine, making AFA one of the highest known sources of naturally occurring anti-oxidants or free radical scavengers.

I find this information amazing about the amount of nutrients found in AFA. I guess that why I have felt such great result when taking it. If you want to read more click on organic food supplement which will take you directly to the harvesters website.

What about INTESTINAL CLEANSING?

Cleansing made a big difference for me.

I had never heard of cleansing, I didn't even know what it was. Until I started reading more about what is going in our environments, and the constant exposure to chemicals and how they build up in our bodies.

I was looking for solutions to my fatigue problem, I couldn't understand what was wrong with me. I thought I lived a good clean life, well maybe that was part of the problem too clean! All the cleaning products I used, at work, and at home.

I came to realize that daily exposure to these chemicals suppressed my immune system, allowing these little bugs to move in, and take their share of my nutrients. I was in denial at first, but I thought I would try it. I was surprised how good I started to feel, more energy, less pain, less bloating. You can read more below why it's a good idea......

Dr. Oz, the now famous Oprah Winfrey guest says..."ninety percent of humans will have a problem with parasites in their lifetime." Parasites are not just something that other people get - a malady reserved for citizens of developing countries. Everywhere we go, during just about everything we do, North Americans are vulnerable to parasitic infestation.

The World Health Organization(WHO) classifies parasites as among the six most dangerous diseases that infect humans. Parasites outrank cancer as the number one global killer, and account for many of the digestive woes from which people suffer.

"We are all exposed to thousands of toxins and unhealthy chemicals on a daily basis. We take them in from the food we eat, the water we drink, the air we breathe, and the prescription medications we take.

These toxins and dangerous chemicals, along with the "typical" American diet lead to poor digestion, constipation, weight gain, low energy, headaches, and many other horrible human maladies. Believe it or not, autopsies reveal the colons of 80% of people who have passed away, are clogged up with waste material.

This waste material gives parasites an ideal place to live. These tiny creatures are alive, and all too often they severely damage every cell in our bodies. In fact, according to the magazine,
National Geographic"...
