Don't Throw Out The Trash! Reuse Those Household Items With Green Crafts!
Household items make great supplies for green crafts. Wait, before you throw out all those paper towel rolls, popsicle sticks, old broken crayons, unwanted towels, holey jeans and t-shirts and plastic shopping bags and other used up household trash...did you know that they can be reused to make other fun things?
There's been a very popular movement the last few years to reuse and repurpose (yes, that's a relatively new term) items rather than just toss them in the trash. It's gaining in popularity because crafter's have embraced reusing household items in green crafts. That's right up this old crafter's alley too, let me tell you!
The idea behind reusing household items in craft projects is to reduce the amount of trash going to our landfills. I think it also encourages us to THINK how much we consume and the results of that consumption--more trash!
Let me show you what I mean about Reusing Household Items For Green Crafts.
1000 Ideas for Creative Reuse: Remake, Restyle, Recycle, Renew
As crafters, we've always been recyclers and 'reusers' of our craft supplies. Today, it's not just frugal & thrifty, but reusing and recycling is just the green thing to do. This book has ideas for sweet little personal accessories and bigger projects in paper art, fashion, jewelry, housewares and more.

How Can I Reuse My Household Items?
If you can't recycle, reuse!

I'm finding all sorts of fun ways to reuse lots of household items that would otherwise have gone in the trash! Just knowing I've kept something out of the landfill is rewarding, but I love seeing an item have new life as something else!
Some examples? here goes:
Old Towels: lining for potholders, re-hemmed to wash cloths, reusable Swiffer cloths, doggie pillows. You can also donate your old towels to animal shelters, they always need them.
Old or unused sheets: curtains, pillows, clothing, Cool Ties For Soldiers' Angels! (I had some tan 100% cotton sheets).
Old jeans (these are pretty well known ideas): tote bags, purses, aprons. I'm dying to make a gardening apron next time my husband tosses some worn out jeans!
Got you going yet? I have lots of resource links, pictures and books listed here. I'll be back with more links to patterns and videos periodically - this is a favorite topic of mine! Hope you enjoy it too!

- We are very frugal small footprint people. As a result, we use almost everything that we buy. We also avoid the cost of buying trash, which saves money. Thank you for making this lens.

- I try to reuse as much "trash" as I can. I like thinking of ways I can re-purpose stuff that would otherwise end up in a landfill. I win on both ends of the deal.
