Green Man Secrets - The Mystery of The Green Man
I'm going to tell you of the Green Man Secrets - the secret sacrifices and rituals of mankind to ensure the fertility of the crops - without which mankind would not Survive.
Many people have dismissed the Green Man Secrets as a myth - but its apparent that many cultures made sacrifices of all kinds (including Human Sacrifices) to appease the spirit(s) of the Earth.
Green Man in History
The Green Man is not just a legend.
Often found in Churches and Castles, statues and Gargoyles feature the Green man either surrounded by or actually with vines or ivy growing out of his mouth.
Its the symbol of From Nature and Back to Nature.
In the dim and distant past some religions and societies used to sacrfice a young man in the Spring to ensure the fertility of heir crops.
The blood of the young man was believed to encourage the land to be fertile.
The Wicker Man movie is based on this principle.
This may of course be just a legend but its certainly true that people all over the World make sacrifices still to the spirit of the Earth - for instance, in Gloucestershire and Herefordshire in ENgland, Morris men still dance around apple and pear trees with a Hobby Horse to end their dance by pouring cider or perry back into the ground. This is done to ensure fertility of the fruit crop and it certainly works well.
The Green Man is also a major figure in the Wiccan Religion and plays a major part in Spring Festivals.

Green Man Secrets around the World
There were similar tarditions among the Ancient Egyptians when captured enemies were killed to ensure the fertility of the Nile Valley.
Aztecs in South America would coat their version of the Green Man with Gold - he would then float on a raft to the centre of a Cenote and sacrifice himself by falling into the water. (A number of gold objects and human remains have been found in Cenotes)
Green Man traditions similar to these were hapeining worldwide and now mostly remain as rather tamer versions in song and playacting.
Carvings on temple walls In india,Mexico,Egypt and Cambodia all show such sacrifices happening.
A sacrifice really had to be a SACRIFICE - where the community lost someone (or something in the case of slave) valuable to them.
The same traditions holds nowadays where farmers pour oil or alcohol into the ground to seek fertility for their crops.
