Products with the Environment in Mind

This lens is dedicated to green products found on Amazon that will help you help the environment. This is by no means an exhaustive list, though I tried to locate items with good reviews, that I thought people and the Earth would benefit from. Before purchasing an ecofriendly product, the first question one should ask is if by purchasing this product, will I be steadily improving the environment, as is the case with a compost bin? If not,then is this a product that I really need? Reducing consumption overall is the best approach, but when dealing with necessities, buying green whenever possible is the way to go.

A Note on Green Washing

As going "green" has become more popular, companies are trying to green their image without necessarily being sincere about their approach. This can be seen in a simple change of product labels, such as those used on more recent McDonald's and Wal-Mart packaging, which focus on simplicity and a natural look for ingredients, as they attempt to subconsciously grab the attention or ease the guilt of a more environmentally aware culture.

As much of the world's mass produced goods come from unsustainable extraction of resources, even so called green products have environmental impacts. The key is to locate the products that are as truly ecofriendly as possible, while reducing your consumption, and more importantly, learning to do things yourself, such as growing your own food.

Green Sprouting

At our house, we enjoy growing sprouts for salads and sandwiches. Because it takes a small amount of seeds to produce a lot of sprouts (the starting seed state is missing the volume of the end product) it's a more environmentally friendly way to ship food. Plus it's healthy and freshly grown in your own home. I can personally recommend the three tray sprout garden included below.
