Beautiful & Ancient Latin Prayer Style

Something is so serene and spiritual about Gregorian Chant.  The Latin prayers of the Psalter, it is the traditional Latin Liturgy especially of monasteries.

Far older than any Protestant denomination, the Gregorian Chanting is bringing people back to a feeling of holy reverence, spiritual sanctity, and seeking of God in the ancient ways.

Chant and the People

Mass appeal to Latin tradition
In contrast to the New Order Mass, which has been in use since the Second Vatican Council in 1969 and is typically celebrated in vernacular languages such as English, the Tridentine Mass is "contemplative, mysterious, sacred, transcendent, and [younger people are] drawn to it," said the Rev. Franklyn McAfee, pastor of St. John the Beloved in McLean. "Gregorian chant is the opposite of rap, and I believe this is a refreshing change for them."

Monsignor Valentin Miserachs Grau, the director of the Pontifical Institute of Sacred Music, believes the entire church should return to Gregorian chance.

"Due to general ignorance, especially in sectors of the clergy, there exists music which is devoid of sanctity, true art and universality," he said.

Chanting the Psalms is a very old practice even mentioned in scripture as 'hours' of prayer. It has been done as plainchant for centuries, and our oldest manuscripts date to the tenth century. Is there any way to tell of certain specific forms of plainchant from the earliest church? What do these ancient forms of praying the psalms tell us? An interesting and beautiful scholarly book about this mysterious and spiritual prayer form.

Gregorian Chants Benedictinos gets my vote. On hearing Gregorian - Ordinary world (it would help to know the popular version), I found the video with the instruments playing a steady beat and the melody of the original song distracting from higher thoughts which the Benedictinos video easily portrays. Well done for putting this lens together, I find Gregorian Chant soothing and I expect I will come back to listen to the other chants over time.
