This review explains the pros and cons of gripe water. It is important to know what they are and how they can effect your baby, The review will mention what is the one most important thing to make sure is NOT in Gripe Water.

The Three Basic Things You Need To Know About Gripe Water

While Gripe Water has been around for some time now, most parents do not know the pros and cons of giving it to their baby. This article cuts to the chase, and tells you exactly what to look for. You will know what to buy if you need it, and even what questions you may want to ask your doctor.

There are three basic things you need to know to make the proper decision on giving Gripe Water to a colic baby.

1. What ingredients are in Gripe Water?
2. Does it have any side effects on the baby?
3. What are the pros and cons?

Knowing this information, will help you in your decision process.

What exactly is colic and what is in Gripe Water that helps babies?

Colic is an extended period of crying, usually over 3 hours or more. The baby is usually healthy, but the baby is believed to have a digestive system that is not mature enough. The ingredients that are in Gripe Water that provide the relief to babies include, dill, fennel, cinnamon, ginger, peppermint, cardamon, angelica, fructose, catnip, caraway, and chamomile. The most common herbs used are peppermint, ginger, fennel, and chamomile.

The Pros include, natural ingredients, aids in digestion, no side effects and it has easy availability.

I would like to expand and explain how it aids in digestion. When the babies digestive system is not fully developed, they develop gas in their stomachs. The gas is what makes them cry out in pain. What Gripe water does, is converts the tiny gas bubbles into one whole gas bubble, which becomes easier to burp out, thus leads to relief.

The cons include, Alcohol Content, the time period; no Gripe Water for the first 30 days, the trial and error in finding the brand that works best for your baby.

The alcohol content is the most important. Some brands contain alcohol. Alcohol is the one ingredient that should NOT be in gripe water. This is probably to induce sleep. Alcohol is not good for a baby. There are enough brands to chose from. I have known many moms who do not agree with me on this point regarding alcohol content, and feel the alcohol content is not dangerous at all. In my viewpoint, I would suggest not getting the brand with alcohol content.

Bottom line, Gripe Water will make a big difference.
