An Informal Report

On a cool summer evening, six years after the terrorist attack at the World Trade Center, I visited Ground Zero to inspect our nation's progress. Admittedly, I had never felt much of a connection to 9/11 before. Never had I witnessed these colossal buildings in person, and not a soul I knew in the city when disaster struck.

How odd it was then, when visiting the Memorial so many years later, that I found a sudden passion and understanding of its impact.

I haven't kept up with the politics, but what I saw was depressing. Progress on rebuilding seems sluggish, possibly even non-existent. The grandiose Freedom Tower has yet to reach ground level, remaining to this day a shimmering illustration on a poster board.

What will it take for the situation to improve? When can we expect to see one of our nation's finest accomplishments restored?

I'm no photographer, but I did manage to take a few photos during my visit. Please forgive the quality...they were taken on my cameraphone. Clicking on one of the photos will take you to my Flickr page, where you can see the comments I wrote for each one.
