Groundhog Day Is Ridiculous!
Are we really all that shocked that a RODENT (one who's job it is to burrow under our houses and mess with our foundations) tells us at the beginning of FEBRUARY that winter is going to stick around for six weeks? COME ON!
I mean, I'm all for doing the Groundhog's Day crafts for the kiddos - that's fine with me. But it seems like there's a whole lot of hullaballoo over nothing.
Seriously, the darn thing has a whole lot of cameras and people stuck in its face, where it's yanked out of its hole (den?), and a bunch of lights shining on the thing. Of COURSE it's going to get scared!
And ANOTHER thing. If we're going to depend on an animal to predict something as ridiculous as whether the winter weather might actually last until March, why wouldn't we ask a somewhat more intelligent animal? Like, oh I don't know.....a Monkey? Or a dog? Or even a potbellied pig?

If the groundhog sees his shadow, it's 6 more weeks of winter.If he doesn't, it's 6 weeks until spring. Or is that the other way around?

I think the whole thing is just too funny! I mean they dress up in top hats and coats and make a big production of it. People do get a kick out of it, but I for one put no faith in Phil! (Sorry, little guy :)

I kind of agree that relying on a Groundhog to predict the weather for the next 6 weeks is a bit ridiculous! If that Ground hog is so smart maybe he should write the new health care policy!

I love Groundhog Day! It's so depressing to enter February and know there's much more winter on the way, I love the idea that a rodent could give me hope for spring! We usually have a groundhog living under the shed in our backyard but don't get even a glimpse of him till at least 6 weeks after Groundhog Day - that's why they have to pull Phil (and Staten Island Chuck who famously bit Mayor Bloomberg last year!) out by hand.
