I've found that working with an electronic back-line whilst playing live and in the studio to give me a new sense of freedom in my playing, mainly I think cuz the beat is so precise, and you know it's not going to change it relaxes you into the rhythm...much easier to jam fluently to I think!

What is electronica?

Share your electronic emotions here!

Electronica is not only electronica. At least, if you ask a variety of people you are bound to get widely different answers.

To kick off this discussion; the Wikipedia definition is:
Electronica is a rather vague 1990s term that covers a wide range of electronic or electronic-influenced music. The term has been defined by some to mean modern electronic music that is not necessarily designed for the dance-floor, but rather for home listening.

Please tell us what YOU think electronica is!

Lsamusic

At first I think of electronica as a certain type of sound or emulation that is created by a synthesizer. Or a mood that is evoked by drum tracks made on drum machines or something. But it is much more than that. Every genre now is using the same gear to create, just in different ways.

Electronica for me is a sub-genre of Electronic Dance Music, and Electronic Dance Music is what runs through my veins...

Nice job here BTW. We need more quality groups like this.

electronica can be almost anything - witness the nujazz coming out now - jazz coolly electronic style - for me it is all that family encompassing dance music, computer generated, the more important areas of electronica for me though are the fractured and leftfield genres

For me, electronica is mainly instrumental. Electronica is often used en movies and I agree with Wikipedia that electronica is rather for home listening than for the dancefloor.
I also think that electronica comes in any music genre. Electronica can have a classic, funk or pop feel.

"hello, i decided all the cool kids were doing it so i'd join in, seems like the way to get your music about these days. im a producer from sheffield....well at least i wish i was. i work full time as an electrician but i spend all the rest of my time producing. started djing 5 ish years ago when i fell in love with electronic music. it started with trance but then i looked for something more an found prog/breaks/ambient/electronica/experimental/electro which moved me so so much. ive always been a music fan for as long as my mum an dad can remember after all they've had to put up with the steady stream of music drifting from my room. you name it really ive been into it at 1 time or other, jazz/hip hop/trip hop/indie/rock/classical/drum n bass/alternative/brit pop and so on. i think really the decision to create my own music was an easy one to make, its just another step for me. no different to when i'm painting on a canvas or taking photographs. i always try to create stuff with thought, my paintings have means and try to make you think and so does my music. if i have a problem on my mind i'll write a track to express it or try to ask a question to make the listener sit up an take notice. i follow no conventions and use not set formula and i dont always use instruments and sounds that are nice and i hope that it sounds individual. i just suit myself really but then all that is no good at all if its a load a rubbish so i hope someone out there likes what i do"
