Web 2.0: A Foreward

Web 2.0 is an internet methodology defining the "next phase" of the internet. Migrating from complex Flash-based websites, DHTML and older technologies; Web 2.0 focuses more on content, the social aspect, search engine optimization, and overall simplicity.

Many aspects compose Web 2.0: social networking (websites that connect people, allowing for online diaries or blogs, personal information, and "favorites" lists), social bookmarking (saving one's bookmarks or favorite websites on an online account that is visible to the world, and links to other people with the same interests), Web 2.0 design (an un-defined but recognizable graphic design style that typically utilizes minimalism, thick stripes, plastic effects, badges, large text hyperlinks, rounded corners, transparent borders and soft colors), long-tail (a strategy where singular blog posts target very niche-specific topics and keyword phrases that were typically ignored in the internet's past), Ajax (a programming language based on XML and Javascript where actions on a webpage perform without the need of a browser refresh, and happen "on the fly"), Wikis (online encyclopedias that are usually text-heavy and notably run by the internet community rather than a set group of employees or editors), and general search engine optimization (SEO) (the willingness to conform to search engine algorithms to rank one's page higher, and reach a broader audience).
